Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural

Not much competition that I see.  hyperion's sale pricing makes me appreciate other UK vendors all the more--even after considering postage costs.

Ah, Sir DavidRoss, this is because you have not yet ventured unto the furthest corners of Hyperiona. Come, let us go thither, and see what strange adventures may befall us, you and I.

First we find, in ye marketplace, wherein be sold ye most unpopular ten items in Hyperiona's realm, ye following:

For this, the good burghers of Hyperiona ask, not merely half-price (£5.40), but half-price minus ye sale reduction: £4.80.

Now look ye, here also on this same stall, we find

Again, the burghers ask a mere £4.80 (less than half-price) in gold and silver for this acclaimed collection.

And lo, here on a stall devoted entirely to half-price Handeliana, we find:

This Penguin Rosette-winning oratorio is not at half-price, (£12.60), nay - but half-price minus ye sale reduction: £11.49. For a 2-CD set, forsooth.

So we gather our purchases together and open our purse - and the burghers of Hyperiona congratulate us on having spent more than £20 (£21.09), and insist on taking only nine-tenths of that sum. We pay them £18.98 in gold, silver and copper, and are happy men.

And observe: in the marketplace of nearby Amazonia, these very same goods would have cost us at least £39. Thus, we may buy many good meats and viands with the gold we have left over.

Except for the paedophilia angle.

Not being a naked tart helps too :P (Although I suppose to some of the target market, it hinders.)
Peanut butter, flour and sugar do not make cookies. They make FIRE.

But did they address you in an incompetent mixture of modern and pseudo-medieval English? And did that price include the postage cost?

No they didn't. And no, it didn't. Postage free, even outside the UK, on everything above 6 quid, yee sayeth?

Yea, I say unto thee, verily, it will cost none of thy gold for thy chosen goods to be delivered to thee, even beyond Albion's shores.

"Josef Hofmann is arguably this century's greatest pianist. His memory was infallible, his repertoire was almost limitless and his technique was flawless. Hofmann is a legend and his final Casimir Hall Recital on 7 April 1938 is the pinnacle of a remarkable career. It is no wonder that this is one of the most anticipated piano recordings to debut on CD. Also included on this, the sixth in a series of eight volumes of the complete works of Josef Hofmann, is a 1936 broadcast of Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata which has never before been issued and an unforgettable 1941 performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in G, op. 58. With great pride, I present one of the most important CD sets that we have produced."

Sometimes I wonder where we're heading...The Ring for organ and Haydn concertos on the harp  :o. Oh, God ! How can one endure the sameness of sound inflicted on the poor listener ? At least the Ring thing is just a collection of extracts, not the whole 14 hour affair -THAT would certainly qualify for unjust and cruel punishment  ;).

Now that we've heard every important classical work in the instrumentation it was written for and several interpretations thereof, at that, the quest for the new will inevitably lead us to hearing every important classical work in every alternative instrumentation. This should give us roughly 350 years to the 7th power of listening-material.  ;D

I recently covered a recording of Vivaldi's Four Seasons for piano, on MusicWeb. It nearly put me to sleep.

Now, the Four Seasons arranged for tuba, mandolin, flute, bongos, and four cellos ...  :D

For the second time in as many days I received a CD that was not in the condition specified by the third party amazon seller.  >:( What is really upsetting is that I had email communication with both sellers to verify the exact condition, then the CDs arrive in a very different condition. The type of stuff we're talking about is not something that could have happen en route to me either. Frustrating! I guess they figure that people won't be bothered to send the damn thing back and they'll just keep the money. They are right, actually, but they will surely get a poor rating from me so that potential future buyers can read about this stuff. This is one big issue I have with the fact that we are moving to an online CD marketplace, at least in the stores you can see what you're getting. Not to mention the fact that you get it right away and don't have to repackage it and wait in line at the post office during their limited hours if you need to return it.   :-\

Hi George - sorry about your experience!  :-\  I order quite a few CDs from the Amazon Marketplace, and have tried to 'stick' w/ just 'new' discs - so far I've been pleased (use just a handful of sellers); I've ordered just a few 'used' CDs and have been lucky - most have come pretty much in mint condition, but I can imagine disappointing discrepancies and surprises; a BAD review certainly is in order & quite distressing to these sellers!  Good luck w/ your exchange, but it is a pain to return items!  Dave

Poor George. :(

Well I hope that you note sellers that suck and post them on the online sellers thread.

I've received my Bernstein Mahler set today, I look forward to listening.  I'm glad I saved $25 and waited on media mail, instead of jumping on from amazon with 2 day shipping.  I was so busy listening to the Hoffmeister Quartet that I didn't care about the delay on Mahler.

Sorry to hear that, George.  I got burned once by moviemars.  Indeed, MM had listed a Schwarzkopf Bach Cantata CD as new, yet the CD I received has scuff mark on it.  It clearly was used and it also skipped during play.  I never received any response to my email inquiry but I kept the CD since it was a $10 CD and was not worth the hassle to return it.  I have never bought from MM again and in fact immediately canceled a pending order at that time ...
