David - thanks for that thorough review of the MTT series w/ the San Frans!  :)  I bought the Gary Bertini box (inserted above) of the Mahler Symphonies, and am currently listening to No. 6 (Tragic - guess it depends on 'how' one feels?) - just an outstanding bargain set, and one that I'd probably recommend as a starter for those wanting Mahler in one 'neat & small' package.

But, that just makes my 2nd box of these works, and could always add a third - I'm still impressed w/ your comments on MTT; just waiting for a nice small presentation to be put together at the good price?  Maybe not to be but hopeful?  Dave  :)

Thanks, Dave.  I am indeed a huge fan of the MTT/SFS Mahler series which ranks with the best in my estimation.  Originally I planned, like you, to wait for the box, but then I happened on a deal I couldn't pass up for #s 2, 3, & 4--all terrific, IMO--and soon followed that with the rest.  SFS might put out a box eventually, but they've announced no plan to do so and I wouldn't expect it until quite some time after release of the rest of the orchestral songs due to be recorded this season...say two years from now, perhaps?  I've also enjoyed and recommended the Bertini set ever since DavidW praised it so enthusiastically a few years ago.  I doesn't displace Bernstein or Kubelik or Boulez or Sinopoli (or MTT) as a complete cycle for me, but can stand in their company (though less characterful than any of them, I think--which makes it a good choice for a starter set) and costs far less (well, maybe not much less than the remastered Bernstein/NYPO Columbia/Sony set, which I would choose before Bertini).

This interests me, too.

(£30 seems steep for six Naxos discs.)

Discs are £4.25 each. P&P is £1.50 for the first one and then £0.50 for the rest.

Well, the BIG purchase below is the 10-CD set of Bach Cantatas - currently I own just over 60 of these works, so was curious about 'how much' overlap might exist w/ this first box volume of Suzuki recordings - only 5, so obtaining mainly 'new' cantatas to add to my collection - price was excellent at MDT (about $40)!   :D

Bach, JS - Cantatas, Vols. 1-10 w/ Suzuki & Bach Collegium Japan on BIS.

Weingartner, Felix - Sextet & Octet w/ Triendl & Ensemble Acht on CPO.

Locatelli, Pietro - Sonatas, Op. 4 w/ Wallfisch & Raglan Baroque Players on Hyperion (Dyad).

Rubinstein, Anton - Cello Sonatas w/ Barta & Milne on Hyperion.

For Suzuki recordings that's a steal Dave! :)  Hope you enjoy them and check out my cantatas thread while you're at it. ;D

David - I'm already a member of that thread!  :D  In fact, just looked at its first appearance on the 'old' forum, and you & I exchanged a few posts on the 'Coffee' cantata (in 2006) - been a while! Dave  :)
