Another class recording...

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Antoine - you should be a 'happy camper' - took George a couple of PM exchanges w/ me before I made the purchase (not the 'cheapest' set available!) - but well worth the price!   :D

I hope you won't be disappointed; in my view, this is an undeservedly overhyped (and overpriced) set. Decent enough, but nowhere near as great as the hype proclaims. Some very good performances there, though. Enjoy and share your impressions!

Fortunately our psychology works in such ways that when we have something that is rare and precious (expensive), we are also inclined to think it particularly good.

Not particularly expensive: less than $14 every disc ("just" 9 discs).

As you know we must preserve the relationship value-cost.  ;)

Yes, overpraised and overpriced, but still worth owning.

Though it pays to notice that 'expensive' is also gauged in comparison to similar items, viz. Beethoven piano sonata cycles, vs. individual discs.

Under that assessment, it very much is 'particularly expensive' at a hypothetical $125, compared to $32 for Kempff, $67 for Kovacevich, $86 for Schnabel, and even $100 for Goode, whose cycle I would personally also consider chronically overpriced within the context of a value-cost relationship. These are all Amazon.com prices. Only the digital Brendel seems more expensive than a $125 Fischer, at an alarming $152.

And I say 'a $125 Fischer' because, strictly speaking, Amazon lists it at a ludicrous $169.

[This for the sake of semantic objectivity (!), more than anything else. And a good evening to one and all from this passing smart-ass. ;)]

There is no question on a per disc basis, the most expensive CD set I have ever bought was the Beethoven Piano Sonatas set by Annie Fischer.  It was $102 before S&H.
