Inspired by the George Lloyd forum and my own curosity, found these at excellent prices:

I'm sure you'll like the 4th, it's quite some edifice.

You can count me a fan of 'Harnasie'  :)

Can't wait to hear another version of this Szymanowski work. The only version I know is with Simon Rattle/CBSO on EMI.

Scarpia

This just landed:

8.50 pounds from amazon.co.uk for 14 CDs.  I'm not so much of a Richter fiend, but for that price?

Wow, amazing price. I think I got it for around 20 pounds (?). A couple of the recordings have dulled my Richter passions, but not the excellent Dvorak Piano Concerto, or the Mozart violin sonata collaborations, or the Beethoven 'Tempest.' I prefer his live Schumann Fantasie on Supraphon ... but screw all that. For that price you get a lot of stuff to explore and quite a few great performances.

Try the Wanderer Fantasy...then later the Berg piece...
Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Three volumes (4, 5 and 6) of the cpo series of Northern Germany organ masters + Böhm's harpsichord music recommended by Que (the samples are stunning).

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

The Hurwitzer hated this, apparently. Sounded like a good reason to pick it up cheaply:

"I don't at all mind actively disliking a piece of contemporary music, but in order to feel happy about it I must consciously understand why I dislike it. Otherwise it remains in my mind as unfinished business."

I am now only missing one recording of A Colour Symphony and it's with Charles Groves conducting on EMI, which is out-of-print in the US.

I've been collecting this cycle CD by CD,  and am waiting for two more to come in (Overtures and Symphonies 3/4)
Be aware that Zinman and the Zurichers recorded not only the Symphonies, but the Overtures, the Piano Concertos and Choral Fantasy (with Yefim Bronfman), the Violin Concerto and Romances (Tetzlaff),  the Triple Concerto coupled with members of the Tonhalle performing the Septet, and the Missa Solemnis (but not, as far as I know, the Mass in C).

There's also a 2 CD set on Arte Nova of the Schumann symphonies.

Sorry, Edward, but the image is not showing.

I do agree with the rationale, whatever it was you got :)

Or he could just buy this box set and be done with it

This set collects most of Zinman's Beethoven orchestral recordings (symphonies, overtures, concerti).

EDIT: I'm shocked to find out that this great set is now out-of-print. I was lucky enough to have bought it a few years ago for $30!  :o

The new erato
