First installment of an order from AmazonUK landed today:

Most of the music on the Haydn set will be totally new with me: most of what I had until now could be summarized under the labels "Paris" and "London".
And (on a tip from Antoine on the Super Duper Cheap thread)

Although the shipping charge of 14 Euros (against 21.75 Euros for the recording itself!, no VAT) made it not quite so super duper cheap

Fantastic! I had owned 4 of the individual discs from this set for a while and finally just bought the set. These are great performances, and also it's a collection of my favorite Haydn symphonies, the "Sturm und Drang" symphonies that is. I think you'll enjoy this purchase, Jeffrey.  ;D

Still my favorite for the piano sonatas.  Angelic with her touch.

Ordered today:

That has been tempting me, but I really must try to resist as Shaham & Abbado is really as fine a recording of the concerto as is needed, and a bit more.

Anyway... Waiting these to land from UK

Excellent choice! One of the greatest series of classical music I've ever heard. Made me a Bartok fan.

Ah, yes, The Wooden Prince. Such an outstanding ballet. This was one of the works that opened up my ears to Bartok.

On first listen, I'm finding it a little long-winded for such a simplistic story; but yes, I can see how it can serve well as an introductory piece. I however got through the PC3, CfO/V and the violin rhapsody No. 1. :)

The Wooden Prince, The Miraculous Mandarin, Violin Concerto No. 2, Bluebeard's Castle, and Piano Concerto No. 2 are the reasons I continue to listen to Bartok.
