Went to check out an independent book shop and to my surprise the had small but decent selection of classical CDs, mostly Naxos but to the old low price. Out of sheer shock I bought:

Shostakovich
Symphonies 5 & 9
Petrenko/RLSO

Bach, JS
Violin concertos
Müller-Brühl/Cologne Chamber Orchestra

We never believed you anyway. ;) I can't remember the last time I went to 'unread posts' and looked at the 'Purchases Thread' without it saying 'last post: Mirror Image'. :D

Those recordings do look interesting though, John. :)

Yeah, I'm so sick! Help me! Help me! Hahaha! :D

Anyway, yes, I've always admired Gary Bertini's Mahler cycle, so I wanted to hear how he handled two of my favorite composers music. From what I sampled via Naxos Music Library, they sounded great. 8)

I know I'm going to get some eyerolls here but I couldn't resist the temptation. I just bought these two sets:

This will be my 6th Ring cycle. :)

The new erato

No problem with you buying these, but a slight problem with how you are deluding yourself all the time. Surely you should know better by now?

I have to admit that you purchase prequency and number of items have gone down a bit since your pledge, but the "item" has changed from Koechlin CD to THE RING. That is a 16 fold increase according to how I was taught math.  ;)

Well, at least you stood up like a man and took the CDCDCD in your chin (or wherever it affects a person).

Sergeant Rock

Arrived this morning from Amazon sellers: the Litton/Dallas Mahler 2; and Walton/Beethoven Violin Concertos performed by the original Violin Babe, Kyung Wha Chung (the Walton with Previn and the LSO; Beethoven with Kondrashin and Vienna).

"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

A rich haul ordered today.  Another Mozart sonata cycle couldn't hurt, and besides, I get to hear Gitti Pirner's playing.  (Who?)  One of my worst nightmares is also coming true.  I am finding that I need to listen to more organ music by Bach, and with so many sets available at agreeable prices, how can I resist?  (There are almost as many Bach organ cycles as LvB sonata cycles.  This could be bad.)

I doubt that. You and Premont have, what, around 50-60 complete sonata sets? I'd be surprised if there are over 20 Bach organ works, including those out of print.

This lists 60 sets completed or underway.  Not as many as LvB sonatas, but frighteningly close.

Well, I'm surprised! ;D

You can take solace in the fact that some of it is OOP and others you can only get by bugging the hell out of one of our Dutch members to search the local stores during the weekend. ;D

But you know those are the ones I want most!  Like Robert Riefling's LvB cycle.

If you changed delivery adress for all your purchases to my adress, with time you'd surely stop, no hurry though. Just PM me and we could set up an arrangement. It's not as if you manage to listen to them anyway.
