For just €19.99 and free shipping from JPC, a 15-CD box I had to acquire even though I'm not a great fan of the harpsichord. Maybe Leonhardt will convert me.

Sarge

If anyone, he will. There is nothing but excellence in this box. I hope it will work for you Sarge!

I love the disc with the French music and slowly taking in the L. Couperin! Even if you don't like those, there are three discs of organ music, and some concerti and cantatas. :)

The only solo harpsichord music I've ever enjoyed completely was by Armand-Louis Couperin on a Reflexe disc. Maybe Couperin the elder will work a similiar magic.

Yes, that's the main reason I bought the box. The three cantatas will fill gaps; the concertos sounded delightful in the Amazon clips (especially the C.P.E Bach). Looking forward to the Corelli Sonatas, too, played by Brüggen, Bylsma and Leonhardt.

The chap with whom I played Lunar Glare, Paul Cienniwa, has an album soon to be released.  I've heard an advance copy, and it is lovely (I heartily believe I should say that even without the personal connection).

Bloody annoying habit of auto-start music on a website, though. If you're a friend, advise against it... and increase the visibility of the possibility of hearing excerpts instead.

I'll mention it to him, Jens.

Because even people who love music, love choice still more. :-)

(It's not just a moody thing I'm saying... there are several reasons, beyond the 'idea of choice': It's potentially hazardous in office situations... or, in my case, interferes with other music already playing, or, when opening multiple windows of the site, creates an (albeit interesting) cacophony of various pieces starting at different times.)

Ives would probably like that, you know . . . .

;D Yes, he probably would dig it, big time. I do, too. Just now I played a Byrd, Couperin, and Bach piece together, playing with the volume to create a very even cacophony. But that's not the point I was trying to make.

This is my 27th recording of the complete Daphnis et Chloe. This is Haitink's first performance of three on record. The other two being with the BSO and the CSO.

A bunch of stuff arrived today from various places

Daniel Grimwood playing Liszt (Annees de Pelerinage) on an 1851 Erard (on a lead from Jens), from AmazonUK
That order I posted from Prestoclassical a couple of weeks ago with three operas from Decca's new budget opera re-release series, with a Tippett EMI double CD and a DG set of Kodaly's orchestral works w/Hary Janos (Peter Ustinov as the Narrator).
And some of the Sony/Vivarte budget boxes from Arkivmusic:
Mozart Divertimentos, etc. ---L'Archibudelli on some CDs and the Danzi Quintet on the others, each with a little help from their friends
Beethoven--String Trios, Piano Trios, and other chamber works performed mostly by the members of L'Archibudelli, with one CD by Mozzofiato
Haydn--Symphonies 41-47, 50-52-64-65, 82-90   Tafelmusik cond. Bruno Weil
The Organ in the Renaissance and the Baroque--5 CDs worth of organ music not by Bach performed by Gustav Leonhardt.   (At least some of these recordings I presume are in the box Sarge ordered.)

I've got another of the sets on the way from an Amazon MP seller, with Leonhardt playing some Bach on the harpsichord,  and will probably get at least two or three more of these boxes in the next week or so.

ETA--it turns out that to get the librettos for those Decca opera boxes,  you need to use one of the CDs from the recording to go online to Decca's website to download the PDFs there.    EMI's equivalent is therefore much better (librettos and liner notes on an included CD-ROM) even if not very luxe.

I've been meaning to buy this recording for quite some time. I'm also planning on re-listening to Schuman's symphonic cycle on Naxos.
