Great choices, Greg. I own both of these. The only Respighi Chandos recordings I'm lacking are the ones with Noseda. For me, Oue doesn't beat Simon in Belkis, Queen of Sheba. Metamorphoseon is an interesting work. That whole disc, like Simon's other Respighi recordings, are fantastic. You'll enjoy that Downes recording with Mordkovitch as well. Beautiful compositions.

Yet another Delius recording on the way:

I've been wanting this one not only for the original version of the Delius' Piano Concerto, but for another recording of John Ireland's masterly Piano Concerto. Glad to finally have pulled the trigger on this one.

That was as much as I saw at first.

Hey, Karl. The mail did disappoint. Wrong Amazon. I was hoping for a letter accepting my application to be the tribe's stud this year. But I've heard nothing for several weeks. I fear I've been rejected.

Interesting choice. Such an underrated set which hardly ever gets mentioned. But I've always enjoyed it. :)

Not many write ups about this performance, DD, but I have other Nagano/Lyon recordings that are spectacular, plus the soloists on this Faust make a nice trio so I figured it was worth a try. Thanks!  :)

Good to see the John Seal of Approval  ;), interestingly I have the Oue and enjoy it quite a bit so it will be nice to have a companion for comparison. And I have fallen in love with the Concerto Gregoriano, such voluptuous melodies. Kind of getting bit by the Respighi bug after jamming out to Ancient Airs and Dances lately.
Thanks, John.

Ah, you haven't checked the If you have a new username thread recently....
That's where I got the idea you're a kid, after you said you changed names after foolishly telling your parents where you hang out on the web. Or was that a joke I just didn't get. (Sometimes I'm really dumb.  :-[  )

You're welcome, Greg. I do hope you enjoy those two recordings and please tell us what you think about them. The Concerto Gregoriano is a beatuiful work. I hear traces of RVW in that work as well as Poema Autumnale. Beautiful music.

If you do want to go further on the Respighi kick, there's a nice series centered on the concertos on Naxos.  (At least I think they're a good group of performances.)

Thanks, Jeffery. Does this include piano concertos?

Plenty of adults have parents, don't they? And I assume most of them would not want their elders poring over their online emissions. (That sounded dirtier than I meant it to.)

I GOT A JOB!!! After 364 days of temping at a low hourly wage for corporate slave-drivers, I scored a permanent, salaried job working at a community college in a really great office filled with wonderful people doing terrific work. I'm moving from a cube row to an office suite overlooking a lake, and I'm also moving from my parents' upstairs bedroom to a place of my own in Dallas.

Oh and as part of my job-app process... I promised myself as a motivator that if I got a job before Presto's Harmonia Mundi sale ended, I could buy as many Harmonia Mundi CDs as I wanted, no matter the cost.

$350 later, here's what I just purchased. Definitely, positively my last music purchase of 2012, probably my last until next summer, cuz that's the most money I've ever dropped on a single order. But oh my god does it look good.

The hard to read ones are: Vivaldi double concertos (Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin), Lorraine Hunt Lieberson and Peter Serkin, Bernarda Fink sings Dvorak, Paul O'Dette plays Kapsberger lute works, Tharaud and Zhu play Schubert piano four-hands.

I was gonna also do Hyperion, but that would have cost waaaay too much money, and also the Martinu cycle came up for US$25, which is half what it goes for on Amazon.

Congratulations, Brian!!! Look at that order!!! My goodness! You put Harry and I to shame with this order. :D I'll have to give a careful scan of all you bought, but just wanted to give you a quick reply. You're the man!

Congratulations on the job and the order!

I have 14 of those CD, and I like all 14.  But the Faust Melnikov Beethoven sonatas are currently my favorite (I have Seiler/Immerseel in the listening pile as well whoever does them in that 50 CD French Beethoven box), so I'd pick that as the jewel of your order.

Congratulations on the job - wonderful news.

You got some nice discs, but I thought I would just highlight one that I have come to love. That Bach disc is really something. And the sound is something else too. Hope you enjoy it (and the rest) a whole lot!

Congratulations.
