Can anybody recommend "The Books (and editions/translations) to Own" when it comes to Norse and Germanic mythology?  Unfortunately, the local public library gives more space to the Greeks and Romans, and their mythology collection in general seems to be aimed at children.  I am hoping to find a few good compilations (for lack of a better word) that have a wide scope, yet are written on a somewhat scholarly level.  At the moment, I am more interested in the stories themselves than their historical context (except as it may relate to Wagner...then I am always interested  :) )

Go to Amazon, do a search, then sort by customer rating. You'll find some stuff.

I should actually get that myself.

Altered title, because that seems to be the only sort of topic that gets much attention around here.   ;)

The Volsung Saga is definitely on the must read list.  I was hoping to find something along the lines of Edith Hamilton's work...unfortunately she only dedicates about ten pages to the Norse in her book.
