My own guess is that, sadly, the reform movement will be suppressed - I think that much depends on the attitude of the Revolutionary Guard. What is going on is certainly extraordinary, but I fear another Tiananmen Square.

     I don't think so. Either you get to a tipping point where the police and security goons stop answering their phones, take off their uniforms and join the demonstrations, or the whole thing peters out after some of the leaders are arrested. If the demonstrators are smart they've already decentralized their leadership even more than is already the case, so arresting leaders won't work. The government might win a waiting game if the demonstrations start to shrink.

Tomorrow will be an important day, Friday prayers: the opposition have called for a mass turnout to prayers in commeration of those shot by the 'winning' side.

The images are awful, the police are being so brutal. A video on youtube of a young guy being dragged through the street while some 10 cops just beat him...they dragged him by his hair...another of a kid being hit by some object in the legs...his legs must have been broken and his jeans were all bloody and he was being carried by people around. The more the police beat them, the more they will protest...I can see it turning much uglier.
