I think she's an actress (in one of those recent Bond movies). Her first name is Sophia and I don't remember what her last name is.

Sophie Marceau.

Resurrecting this old thread for some guidance.

Any rec's for Scriabin's smaller piano pieces? Looking for the Mazurkas and Etudes plus a fine collection of various miniatures. Currently all I have (besides the sonatas) are Gavrilov and Laredo in the preludes plus various Richter bits.

On my radar are Melnikov, Amoyel, and Csalog as far as recent recordings. Obscure/historic/OOP rec's most welcome!

Pizzaro seems interesting in both the Mazurkas and Preludes but nothing of his is in print. Used editions can be had on Amazon but typically command high prices.

Any help would be appreciated.

Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach

Sokolov, Le Van, Amoyel, Melnikov, Richter, Sudbin, Horowitz, Eckardstein, Pletnev, Ashkenazy, etc. Grab anything. You can fine-tune your preferences later. :-*

You've listed everything and the kitchen sink without mentioning the greatest of all: Sofronitsky

Right.  I don't know any Scriabin enthusiasts who don't consider Sofronitsky the best - that includes me.

I thought that might provoke the Russian Wolfhounds. Down dogs, down.

I have an affection for the old VOX recordings of the Piano Sonatas by Michael Ponti, especially his teetering-on-the-edge slam-dunk performance of the Ninth Sonata.

Today this fine box arrived with the complete pianoworks from said composer at super budget price.
8 cd's and one of them a DVD region free, with the artist playing and interviews.
I sampled through it, and what I heard so far mightily impresses me.
Anyone heard these yet?
And maybe other complete sets with comments?
Would be welcome you know, for I am fascinated by this music.
Maria Lettberg is a very accomplished musician I can tell you, and goodlooking........

jpc postage to Norway is excessive. British webshops have MUCH more reasonable postage. Alas, there this set is 22 GBP, more or less twice your 20 Euros. Still they come out cheaper than jpc.

Bloody...I did not know that. Why is this rate so high anyway?

perchance do you work for this label? If not, please help us out by listening to it first and then recommending it. No one should be fooled into throwing away £20 for your whims.

The new erato

I find it interesting in itself that this set is available as it is NOT very easy to collect a complete Scriabin from single discs. So at this price I would tend to buy the set as a complement to all my single discs however. So I appreciate this information and am sure Harry will add to it in due time. The beauty of the Internet is that there is no editor.

Yes thank you for this comment my friend, I am sure it will do some good.
Allthough I fail to see what.

I will start with this set tomorrow, but I sampled big chunks of it, and my instincts tells me, that this is indeed something to be treasured. And its true, that it is hard to find a complete set, so this is double welcome.

Harry - looking forward to your review on this 3-CD set!  :o  I was not aware that Scriabin wrote THAT MUCH piano music - I do have the 3 discs below, all rated well, if those reading this post want a 'smaller dose' of this composer -  ;D  P.S. Sorry about the image of the CD w/  Elena Kuschnerova - wonderful performances (seems to be available only via the marketplace on Amazon & listed at twice the price that I paid!).
