Hey Simon, I'm going to St. Petersburg (Russia) next month. Do you know of any record stores that may have good Sofronitsky CDs or LPs in that city??

Thanks Simon. Too bad they're nowhere to be found in North America.

Another Sofronitsky-Scriabin mystery is exactly how many Sonata no:4's are there out there?
I seem to have 4 (GPOC, 2 in the Arlecchino set, and there is this other one from 1960 that was available for download on a website). The GPOC and the download sound almost the same for the first movement, but the second movement has different timings  ???

I've been looking for this disc for some time with no succes whatsoever, so any info where this might be found would be appreciated.

Which one of the Sofronitsky Denon Scriabin discs (in the link below) would you recommend me to start with? I'm not familiar with Scriabin's music so it could be the piano sonatas or the preludes/etudes. Which disc could convert me into a Scriabin devotee?

It's a 2 CD set containing most of the op. 8 etudes (studio), and a live recital with many mixed Preludes, Poems, Sonatas 9 and 10, and the most overwhelming etude 8/12 you're ever likely to hear.

Kuerti is the pianist I favor is the piano sonatas. Though I think he has only done two. Other than that I have quite a list, I suppose.

Horowitz, Sofronitsky, Pogorelich, and Richter.

I've heard great things about:
Vieru, Samuel Feinberg, Sokolov, Zhukov, Rachmaninov, and Neuhaus.
But I've hot heard anything beyond a sample for them, and I am not one to make a solid judgment off of a sample.

Little wonder he was ridiculed for his Scriabin recitals before leaving the homeland. Sounds like something Pogorelich would do now.

I actually enjoyed it quite a bit for that very reason. You could defintely tell who was playing the piece. It didn't sound Scriabinesqe at all.

I think she's an actress (in one of those recent Bond movies). Her first name is Sophia and I don't remember what her last name is.
