ritter

The first username I ever used online (in a Spanish language opera forum) was Parsifal. That forum had to migrate to another platform or something, and we all had to re-register. By then, I thought a less grandiloquent name made more sense, so I settled for ritter (there's plenty of Ritter —knights— in Wagner and in opera in general). I've used that name ever since in any forums I participate (which aren't many, TBH).

I use lowercase just to avoid having to hit the shift key every time I write it... ;)

Whenever I read your username, I think of Atreus, king of Mycenae, and of the Atreidae.

If it was that it should be Forbjerg. However I don't want my real name mentioned in the forum, since it's relatively rare.

Quote from: Florestan on April 14, 2024, 09:35:49 AMYou must have a split personality, then, because in another forum your real name is Hans Zimmer.  ;D

Maybe it was Hans Zimmer who composed the works ascribed to WA Mozart. Something for Robert Newmann to think about.

Iota

I had no idea what to call myself when signing up, and the first thing that came to mind as something I liked was 'Io', one of Jupiter's moons that I've always found rather striking. From that came Iota, which as the Greek letter representing the sound 'i' seemed to fit, as it was 'I' would be doing the posting, and finally I liked the feeling of insignificance it implied.
So to answer the question, it was the best I could come up with at the time.  ::)

Copilot says:
As of today, there are no living individuals with the name Mozart. The Mozart family, which includes the renowned composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, has left a lasting legacy in the world of music and art. However, the direct lineage of the Mozart family has not continued to the present day

Archaic Torso of Apollo

I've been through several usernames. I started here way long ago as Walter Bruno, which struck me as an appropriately musical made-up name. I then went through a series of short-lived names (Otto Skadelig, Contents under Pressure, and Spitvalve) before settling on Velimir for a few years. This was chosen in honor of the Russian avant-garde poet Velimir Khlebnikov, the only person with that name I can think of. Eventually I switched from Slavic poetry to Germanic with Archaic Torso of Apollo (a poem by Rilke). There's no real rhyme or reason to this; I just like poetic or musical references.

Holden

Mine came about indirectly from a friend of mine. As I always seemed to have an opinion and wasn't afraid to share what I thought ad nauseum she said to me - "You're always 'holding forth' about something or other. A couple of spelling changes and 'voila, it became Holden4th. I've shortened it to Holden for this forum.
Cheers

Wise, I'm not sure Holden wrote a 4th anything...

(poco) Sforzando

For a long while I went by my real name, but on another music forum I christened myself "Alban Berg." I figured that if I were to become a composer, I might as well become the best. Not sure where "Sforzando" came from. I think it was because I had gotten a reputation for being curmudgeonly and nasty, a reputation I have since cheerfully passed on to others on the forum. And I liked the phrase in my signature, which was written by our dear friend and now moderator Brian Reinhart. The "poco" part was suggested by someone who thought "sforzando" by itself was too brusque. But as any musician knows, a note is either played sforzando or it's not, so the poco part of it is thoroughly oxymoronic. Perhaps to celebrate my newfound sweetness I should rename myself to "lusingando," which I also don't know what it means but it must mean something.
"I don't know what sforzando means, though it clearly means something."

You've got one half of it. The other half's hint is that aside from a Beethoven symphony it was one of my earliest classical music memories. I really won't say anymore as this hint narrows it down a bit too much  ;)

I like this answer. If I was independently wealthy I would have went into astrophysics. When I first starting ripping my collection in 2004 I started naming the folders that EAC points to after Jupiter's moons. I think that is roughly a dozen different moon names from the various PCs over the years.
