Hello, a while ago there was an extended topic on 21st century works, with plenty of Youtube links- it's probably not too far away, but I haven't looked yet.

I'm a bit sceptical about most music from the last few decades but if someone who knows the thread can point me in your best direction, ideally something artistic as well as innovative where I can see the late 20th century dreamscape mush or fake serial styles being taken forward a bit, then I'll give my usual five or more listens, and promise I won't be too disparaging. Thanks if you can...

Sean,

Here's the dreamscape, mush and fake serial thread:

And good to hear your inimitable tones again.

Ah yes.
Are you familiar with Thomas Ades? I don't think his work could be classified as dreamscape mush or fake serial.
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

Hello. Asyla, Concerto concise and Powder her face I've listened to repeatedly; the Concerto had the most original thought, in a negative ironical way. I'm afraid he stands for more rummaging among the ruins.

Um, Sean. I think the term skeptical is for things that you know.

A distrust of things you don't know is called prejudice.

Asyla is an all-time favorite of mine. I haven't been able to get into the Concerto Conciso, but it's been awhile since I've heard it. The Violin Concerto is great, too.

I think Rattle pushed it with the BPO but I don't believe in it really. Okay, I'll have a think about tracking down the Violin concerto.

some guy, well I'm not starting a fight. Any specific recommendations? I'm happy to explore a composer new to me with two or three recent works.
