Particularly tragic that he died so early. But at least he had many decades of success and good musicianship.  And a serious professional that would not go compromising as regards his ideals, it seems.
I worked in a central hotel here for some years & checked him in once, telling him I was a fan during the short conversation, to which he replied kindly and with a smile.

Yes, he left this world too soon. As you said, he has had many years of success in giving the world music and that's no easy feat within itself. That kind of dedication is always highly respected by me.
