I did do a quick google before I replied.   :) New question:  is that what's known as a grow bag underneath it inside a plastic(?) tray?

Day went a bit sideways, but some progress made.  I needed a new watering can (found).  Also, picked up some seeds for chervil and summery savory, a few leeks (plus some King Arthur seeds) and some more compost (on sale).

Has anyone here tried SmartPots (or something akin to them)?

I'm using grow bags for the first time this year, which I believe are a lighter weight version of Smartpots? What appeals to me is that they're more stable on uneven terrain because they sort of form to the ground they're on. They're also more space efficient because there isn't the wasted space between them that round solid pots form. I can't tell yet if there are any disadvantages so early in the season, but will see how it goes. I like them so far.

I'll give you a link to them; they're different than *grow bags.  Haven't seen gbs for sale in my area (as far as I recall).  The *ones that I saw are here:  https://www.johnnyseeds.com/search/?q=grow+bags&search-button=&lang=en_US

K

Edit:  the ones that I'm thinking of are (from what I recall) more of a bag of (I think) soil, compost, maybe some fertilizer which ones can plant things like tomato plants or other veggies...vs. planting them  into the ground (heard about them from UK friends in the past).

Not quite sure what those might be. The divided bags I have work great for my peppers and the large one in back has my potato plants.

Who makes them?  I don't know whether or not you saw my corrected post?

Ah, I see. They look awful small for anything other than a balcony or patio. They strike me as being something targeted to non-gardeners

Yes, I saw your post after I sent mine. The bags I have I bought through Temu over the winter. Very inexpensive (at least they were then before tariff time.) I don't know how long they'll last, but I thought I'd give them a try.

Doesn't look like they can hold any plants of substantial size.

I know one British gardener who used them to plant tomatoes--and no, not heirloom sized ones like various brandywines.  From what I recall, he put them down in his yard.
