This is more of a re-introduction thread as I did sign up to here a while ago but drifted away. Nice to see a few of the familiar names and I look forward to getting involved again ;D

Anyway Im Daniel, 21 from the North East of good old England. I just graduated from Durham University with a History degree in July.

Anyway, Ive been into classical music for about 3-4 years. I come from a working class background in a industrial town so as you might suspect culturally its dead. I was never really introduced to classical music. My parents never were interested, my school being an average comprehensive didnt teach it in any capacity so I went relatively ignorant until I was 17-18 when it was through Classic FM I really got into it. I just heard it one night when I turned my radio on and it was really relaxing and soothing and it began there. Every night as I got into bed Id put it on. Then my passion grew and it became a big interest of mine.

Over the past 3-4 years I have built up a large Cd and DVD collection and sought to educate myself about the classical music. My technical understanding is very very limited and I cant hold those sort of debates but thats not vital to me. I love to listening to music and that comes first.

Opera is my main passion with La Boheme and Carmen being my two favourites, a little obvious I know. Also enjoy listening to the voice...my favourite instrument.

Nothing else to say really, Im not that interesting but hopefully I can get involved in the forum here and learn and enjoy music as I go

Thanks

Daniel

You are again welcome to this forum my friend, and hopefully you will stay this time.
Many of us are with a similar background, so you will fit in perfectly.
Could you just name a few more composers that interest you? :)

DanielFullard

Thanks ;D

As for composers that interest me -

Dvorak
Alwyn
Berlioz
Sibelius

But really I'm open to anything!

Well there is a fine discussion going on about Sibelius, so tuck in, and Alwyn and Dvorak have their threads too, many Berlioz fans too, so no shortage finding friends........................... :)

Hi Daniel, and welcome back.  Nothing to apologize for about liking Carmen and La Bohème--they aren't beloved for no reason!  Since you are a Dvořák fan and like opera, I hope you have gotten to know Rusalka.  If not, definitely bump it up in the queue.

And, to that extent, your current avatar is most fitting ..........
