Is this stuff supposed to have an effect? I drank a whole can an hour ago and could still probably just pass out right now if I let myself... or does it take hours to kick in?  ???

Chances are you've probably developed a tolerance for caffeine. Drink coffee. Once you go black, you never go back. ;D

Interesting... didn't know you could do such a thing.
I'm not sure that's it, though, because I don't drink soda or stuff with caffeine that often- and I'm assuming you'd have to to develop a tolerance. I've probably only drank coffee no more than 5-8 times in my life  :D, and can't remember ever noticing a difference in energy (though I could be wrong).
I might have to try black coffee though... when, I don't know, but if I ever need to I suppose I'd want something more reliable.  ;D

CD

Try drinking it when you haven't eaten in a while. It helps me concentrate. I almost never listen to music without a mug of coffee or tea beside me.

greg

That actually sounds like a good idea. I really think the only real way to listen to someone like Boulez or Carter would be to sit there and completely concentrate on the music- and the coffee would help. Honestly, that's usually the only way I can enjoy their music- otherwise, it just goes over my head.  ;D

Mozart

I could carbonate my pee and call it an energy drink. What the hell is an energy drink? It can be anything...why do people pay 2 dollars for a small bottle of some stuff just because it says energy drink. "Ohh it has ginseng! That sounds asian!" Why in the world would ginseng give you energy?

If you want energy, eat an apple.

It only has 75 mg of caffeine. :)  That's about 1/2 a 12 ounce cup of coffee which is not much.  And if you're already tired it's not going to undo that. :)

For once I agree with Mozart, if you want energy go to the source-- eat an apple.  Or go to bed. ;D  Wait a minute, I should take that advise...

Caffeine just doesn't work as a stimulant for some people; maybe you're one of them. I know some people who e.g. can drink coffee at 11 pm and then go straight to sleep. It's like chamomile to them.

greg

So, I fell asleep at a normal time so I guess it didn't have much effect.

Actually, a whole can is supposed to have 143 mg of caffeine, so I've read.
I also read somewhere that (at least for the reviewer) it takes 10-15 minutes for the energy to kick in, and only last about an hour. At that time, I could say I definitely didn't feel anything, so it is very possible caffeine has no effect on me.  :P (or at least no effect on me after working 9 hours  ::) )

Diletante

#9
I've tried Red Bull and it doesn't do much for me. But I do feel a kick with coffee and... chocolate! The other day I was eating some dark chocolate and it felt great, my eyes got wide open and I felt the sudden urge to run around the block or something. :)
Orgullosamente diletante.

Mozart

Actual I knew a kid in high school, he probably had adhd, he would chug 2 16 ounce rockstars before school and become quite calm. Kind of odd. Anyways now he is a marine.

Not straight up amp, that would be amp overdrive.  I consulted the list because I got an energy drink a few nights ago to get some chores done before bed-- http://www.energyfiend.com/the-caffeine-database

Oh well it doesn't matter anyway, if you wanted a real high you need to exceed at least 200 mg.

That website is wrong, it takes 30 minutes to an hour for caffeine consumption from any beverage to hit it's peak.  And the half life for caffeine in your bloodstream (if you don't smoke) is four hours.  That "only lasts an hour" is just flat out wrong.  You just have to admit that you are not sensitive to caffeine, you better use meth instead. ;D

When I was younger (teens and early 20s) I could consume beverages with caffeine in the evening and they had no effect on me.  Then in my mid-to-late-20s that changed and caffeine started keeping me awake at night; so I've since ceased consuming beverages with caffeine after 4:00 p.m.  8)

Yeah same here (except that one night), and I usually have my last cup of joe around 1-2 pm.  I don't think that I would be able to go to bed and sleep in the 9:30-10:00 ballpark if I had coffee before then.  I'm really sensitive to caffeine though!

Scarpia

I was curious enough to look at the AMP Energy website.  It is essentially Mountain Dew (which already contains caffeine) with some extra ingredients like Ginseng and Taurine, which are popular with dietary supplement wacos.  As Mozart said, eating well is the best way to stay healthy.  Any nutrient is toxic at high doses and taking a "supplement" which has some food component at unnaturally high doses can be dangerous.  Coffee and Tea, at least, are natural food products.

I checked a can again today and it's 71mg for half a can of Amp, so for a can it'd be 142 mg. I don't know- maybe what I had was Amp Overdrive- didn't see the "Overdrive" on the can, but it's possible I missed it...

Oh, it was just some guy writing about his experiences with various energy drinks, so I don't know if he made all the up or what.

Well if it said right on the can, then the website I looked at must be wrong. :)

Well even if it doesn't wire you up, just hold on to the option of having coffee that once in a blue moon you have headache, it will work wonders. :)
