Classical venues in Paris?

Can someone tell me what the main venues are in Paris? I'm heading over later this month to meet with an old friend who is also flying in. We'll only have one evening together, which makes it quite a long way to go for dinner, so I was thinking that it might be nice to stay an extra night or two by myself and maybe catch a concert. I only know of the Théatre de Champs-Elysées, which hasn't anything on that I want to see at that time.

Where else should I check out?

If you cannot find anything big, there is always evening concerts in the churches. Advertised om posters where tourists (like me) are.

Check above all the Salle Pleyel, the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Cité de la Musique, and the Opéra de Paris. Eventually the Salle Gaveau could offer something interesting. (There are more options, but these are the logical ones).

Gabriel, I've had a quick look at the places you've listed and there seems to be quite a lot on.

I like the sound of Leonhardt and Café Zimmermann doing some Purcell, particularly since I've just this evening had my first experience of Purcell, a rollocking performance of The Fairy Queen. Unfortunately, that's the night my friend's in town; he's an old clubbing mate and I'm not sure if that's the sort of thing he'd travel eight time zones for. Wozzeck seems to be on - that's also very attractive - I love that opera and would've gone to Salonen's London performance except that the timing was undoable for me. As a matter of fact, I think my friend would love it too, but the dates don't work for him. That's such a pity.

Valentino, I hadn't known about church concerts but they sound interesting - I like the idea of just rocking up to something. I gather you just took a look around when you got there?
