Subtitles for avi

I downloaded an italian movie, 8 1/2, and I can't get the subtitles to work. Any ideas? There are 2 avi files, the movie is split in half, but one subtitle file Eight and a Half (Fellini, 1963).sub I can't get it to work and feel like I have tried everything. There also seems to be a subtitle named 8.cd.1.sub but its empty. The movie has many zip files with other languages for subtitles, some are .srt and some .sub and they dont seem to work.

well
1) join the 2 avi files
2) .srt is the subs file, make sure that the name before .srt is the same as the name before .avi
3) put them in the same folder.

How do you join them?
1 problem, the english subtitles are named .sub

get AVI/MPEG/RM/WMV Joiner

if the file is .sub, all the same, just make sure the names of the movie and the sub files are IDENTICAL

you need to fix the speed of the subtitles, this can be done with a subtitle editor

i have a question...... why is it that subtitles aren't usually the real script but just approximations?

something would be said like, "All right, we're going now."
and the subtitle will be like, "Come on, let's go."

i try watching Scooby Doo or The Cat in the Hat in Spanish with Spanish subtitles and you just can't learn much since the same thing isn't being said. It's almost useless to learn anything

I download movies all the time and I use Subtitle Workshop to correct the .sub and .srt files. (I once used this program to make all the subtitles for a 2,15 hour Traviata with Netrebko and Villazon)

Many movies are ripped in two files (in most cases 700mb each), but I never had to join them.
