I am convinced that it's not worth buying computer speakers so I now intend to buy a stereo system.  My budget is £3,000 for the amplifier, what do you recommend?
I currently own a set of hand-made Albarry Music amps from 1988 with wound wires instead of bulbs (which was something great to have back then?).  I have no clue of amplifiers so please guide me.

Why would you want to replace the amplifier you have?

Papageno

Should I go for NAD or Roksan?

Herman

Neither would necessarily be better than Albarry. Like I said: why are you so eager to replace the amps you have?

Well I'm not exactly going to replace them, you see, my Albarry set is at my house in Athens, I want something for my house in London.  So what do you recommend Herman?

What speakers are you going to use?  When you have decided that, get an amplifier that will drive them. Depending on the set up, an integrated amp or receiver may be more convenient than a separate preamp and receiver.

I'd recommend a used Bryston, assuming their UK service is decent.

When I needed an amp I bought a used Bryston 3B-SST that still had about 14 years left on the warranty.  It was making a popping noise after power off, so I sent it back to Bryston for service (I'm on the US West Coast, and their service center is on the East Coast).  They fixed it the same day they got it, so it was back on my doorstep in less than 2 weeks.  Because the unit was made prior to 2006, I didn't need to show a bill of sale, and no RMA was required.  They started requiring a copy of the bill of sale for units made after Feb 2006.
