Haydn op.76

For 76 I like The Lindsays and Buchberger Quartet . I haven't heard the Mosaiques recording of 76, but I have heard their excellent 20, 33 & 77 so I'm sure 76 is just as good.

Some specifics:

1. Has anyone heard the Fine Arts Qt. recording of this on Vox (a 3-LP VoxBox)? I've read some very laudatory reviews of it. Apparently it is not available on CD, but that's not a problem for me.

2. Any thoughts on the Tokyo (which seems to be easily available) or Alban Berg?

I highly recommend the combined Vox set with the Dekany and Fine Arts Quartets (MP3 only).  I got it for $3, but it's still worth it at $10.

Also the Mosaiques (non-aggressive HIP), Panocha and Carmina Quartets.

Haven't heard the Tokyo, but they did an excellent box of Op. 50.

I managed to find bits & pieces of the FAQ Op. 76 on YouTube. Good stuff indeed.

That said - I keep getting the impression that any decent 4tet can produce a good account of these. The music seems to be sort of foolproof.

I have the Mosaiques Op. 76 and I enjoy their interpretation very much.

But a couple of days ago on the radio I heard a recording of the Alban Berg quartet playing the "fifths" quartet.     I must say it was a much more powerful and exciting performance.      I was very impressed ....
