     Just to satisfy my own curiosity I made a 640 kbps mp3 of a 42 MB lossless file. It came out at 32 MB. The v-0 setting came out at 12 MB, 320 at 16 as expected. So, using the highest variable setting is a real winner given that SQ is judged to be equivalent to 320.
