Interesting. Maybe I could pull something off... should have the time to do it around the start of January, so if I can write at least 3 minutes of music within 2 months...  ;D

I think I'll mess around with ideas for the next few months (gotta do tons of work at home so I can finish school by the end of this year  :P ) and then from there seriously work on it January-February.  8)

Now, if you're doing a few months of prep work for a 2- to 3-minute choral anthem, I expect less razzing from you about the 30 minutes of orchestral score I need to generate, to complete my ballet  ;D ;) 8)

Finale® National Composition Contest

QuoteIn partnership with MakeMusic, Inc. and the Grammy-winning ensemble eighth blackbird, the American Composers Forum announces the Finale® National Composition Contest.

The objective of this competition is to encourage creativity by composers throughout the United States and to recognize and reward their accomplishments.

The focus of the competition will be chamber music. Three composers from the total applicant pool will be chosen as finalists. They will receive a cash prize and be asked to write a piece for eighth blackbird, which will be workshopped and performed in the ensemble's Chicago studio. One of the pieces will be chosen to receive the final prize, which includes an additional cash award and a future public performance by eighth blackbird.

Call for scores:

Quote
Ensemble: Périphérie is calling for score submissions for its inaugural Spring 2011 Tour program. Composers are invited to submit up to two works for at least 3 players drawing from the ensemble's core instrumentation: flute, clarinet, horn, percussion (1 player), piano, violin, cello, and soprano. We particularly welcome submissions that feature horn. Composers may also submit works that include instruments outside of the core, with the understanding that the programmability of such works cannot be guaranteed. Works should not exceed 15 minutes in duration. Composers submitting vocal works must provide proof of permission to use copyrighted texts. Selected works will be programmed on all concerts presented during the Spring 2011 concert tour. Selected composers are encouraged to attend the Iowa City concert on Saturday, April 24th. Submit pdf scores and mp3s electronically to EPScores@ensembleperipherie.com. Send any inquiries to EP@ensembleperipherie.com. Deadline: November 1, 2010.
