Well, I finally found a really good board focused on the great art of western art music...or classical in all its many forms and developments.

I hail from the Mahler board (I mainly collect Mahler recordings and broadcasts), but of late I have returned to the 18th Century, my first love of classical (a love which began in 1985) in order to delve into the forgotten and unknown composers of that time.

But also, have returned to Anton Bruckner...as I have been just learning his music for the last three years...like Mahler it has taken some time to learn and appreciate, but the journey is wonderful and life fulfilling.

I have been lurking for awhile before posting, and it's obvious I have found a great place.

Hello all!

Welcome to GMG, Leo!

I also love Bruckner, and Mahler (more recently).  :)  Happy to have you on board!

Harry

Hi Leo, welcome aboard, and Bruckner and Mahler are composers that touch my heart too.

Leo K.

Much thanks for the very warm welcome.

Hi Leo, and greetings from NYC!  A huge Bruckner and Mahler fan here, too.  Hope you enjoy yourself here; many fine people from all over the world on this board.

Hi Leo, welcome aboard this board!

Shameless Self-Promotion Warning: I started a thread, here, asking for Mahler fans to express what they like about this composer's works, since while I enjoy Mahler, I am interested in what real Mahler lovers hear in him that maybe I was overlooking.

Hello and welcome, even though you have still to learn that what we really focuses on is the polls that MN Dave (as he is currently known) starts.

MN Dave

Hey! I haven't started a poll since...

Never mind.  :-[

Greetings Leo from Sussex, UK. I am a fellow Bruckner fan. I was even there, as a tiny boy, at the 1970 proms when Jascha Horenstein conducted a famous account of Bruckner Symphony No 8 (now on BBC Legends).

Wow...you all are so kind!  Thanks for all these welcomes!

That is quite wonderful!  I love that performance (I have the Music and Arts disk of that one)...I'm a big Horenstein fan.

I found my way into Bruckner with Horenstein's Vox/Turnabout LPs of Bruckner's 8th Symphony - still my favourite version.

I will definitely have to revist that performance now...since I've been revisting many other recordings of the 8th.

The new Music & Arts Furtwanger Conducts Bruckner set sounds fantastic by the way...the transfers are outstandling...highly recommended for Furtwanger fans.

Leo, feel free to visit and contribute to this popular Bruckner's 8th thread!  :)

Hello, Leo,

Belated welcome!  I am just learning about Mahler and Bruckner, so I'll probably be reading your posts but not saying too much.
