It’s still annoyingly sluggish for me. Load times are terrible.

It was very slow in the last hour but on returning from checking out another forum it has sped up once more.

Yes, quite fast here this morning, but there are only 122 guests, so surely that has something to do with it.

Slow, slow, slow the last few days.
Here too, always with around 1000 "guests" hanging around. Bots seem to be busy.

Gave up trying this morning but better now.

Everything is running as smooth as Gil Shaham’s legato. :)

Yep, I am aware of the times when forum is running slow. I have looked into the server settings (including memory, CPU, database queries, users) and there is not much else I can optimise. I am on a shared server, so it is possible that the other people sharing my server use up more than their fair share of server resources, even though the host is supposed to allocate resources evenly.

My long term plan is to persist for now with current software (Simple Machines Forum, or SMF). We are on version 2.0.15. Version 2.1 is pending (Release Candidate 2, kinda like beta software). As soon as it is in Final Release, I will upgrade the forum to the new version and I am hoping there is some database optimisation or SPAM control that works better than the current version.

If that doesn't work, then I may have to fork out extra $$$ to upgrade my hosting plan.

Happy new year to all.

Rob

GMG was rather slow for me as well about an hour (or so) ago. Seems to be running fine for me right now.

Slow for me, too, earlier this morning -- so much that I got the "timed out" message.

But just now, around 10:30 EST, it's fine.

Geesh with over 5000 guest the going gets hard. Several times blocked to post anything. I gladly pay money for a subscription if Rob would effectively take measures against this nuisance.
