Also ordered the Wood Technology TO-144-O - Hardwood Oak 20" Spinning Media Storage Tower, which will give me slots for another 150 CD's right at my computer desk ...    ;D

What I need is a method of storing my storage systems ....

I don't buy that stuff.  Storage towers or cabinets are a waste of money.

You can always try some wall-mounted storage system like this one ...

Made of hard wood and made here in the US, not Chinese import.  This is a good thing to do on July 4th ...

Alas, no - the walls are full of pictures. There's no hope of a solution, really.

Elgarian,  This is the reason why some people have gotten rid of all physical media and migrate to a music server.  I am too old to go that route.   LOL

I use them for some overflow, but don't find them to be very space-efficient.

Exactly.  With 3000+ CD's, it is not easy for me to store all my CD's in one place since I already have a few thousand LP's as well.  I just cannot take over the bookshelf built into wall (which can swallow up a huge number of CD's for sure) or risk a major battle with my wife since that large bookshelf is for only books and memorabilia ...

If you're willing to ditch the clunky jewel case, there are small metal cases you can buy from amazon that hold a 1000 cds each, I guess 500 if you want to use half of the space for liner notes.  It's not a shelf to display your collection, but you've obviously realized that if you have thousands of cds then displaying your entire collection is not really a good option, as much as it would simply overwhelm an entire room or two! :D

I hope to have one room devoted to music/music listening one day, with CD shelves taking up two or three of the walls of the room. Maybe a ton of those Benno's from IKEA lined end to end, or better yet,  just 12 or so rows of simple shelves that run the length of the room.

I dream the same dream. But Benno's are definitely NOT part of that dream. Bennos are part of the haphazard solution right now... but because of their thick walls and narrow stance, they waste something like 15 to 20% of your space.

I'm dreaming of a custom made floor-to-ceiling shelving unit... the lower part drawers, ten to 15 inches high and sticking 8 to ten inches further than the CD shelves, all sturdy enough to step on to easily reach the top CD shelves.  Sort of like this.

The new erato

IKEA Billy works reasonably well in my (admittedly not very tidy) music room.

Storing my CDs is a hassle. Explaining to my wife that we need to buy new shelves, and rearrange some furniture to accommodate them, that's a problem, one I've been through many time and am dealing with again right now.

Netgear ReadyNAS Duo.

Up to 1.5TB of FLAC files go in here. That's about 3500 CDs.
And the Duo is the smallest model.
I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.
