This character from the early 19th century was a lightweight opera composer and arranger who in the depths of the British music hiatus was fairly highly regarded at home: I've only just heard of him. Just got hold of a CD with extracts of songs from his incidental music for Shakespeare- it's a Philips disc with Philip Pickett in charge
