There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Happy Festivus, Joe! Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it, happy new year to all, and for those in snow-covered places, a hot cocoa (with or without peppermint schnapps), too!

I love this season! The tree -- an organically-grown, freshly-cut fir which has not caused an allergic reaction, so yay for that! It's nice to be able to breathe through the holidays! -- is up and decorated, the college (!) student comes home tonight (my best present!), brunch is planned for the weekend, and news about the New Year's celebration has been distributed. One last load of presents will be delivered today, just in time to wrap them before the kid comes home, and I have one quick trip to make to a couple of stores for last minute purchases, including citrus fruit for the stockings and a present for each cat. :)

Yay!! for the holidays!!!!!

Harry

I wish to all and everyone, including the GMG members and their family a Merry Christmas, and a fabulous new year, and that God may give to all what they need, and comfort all that need it. Every soul is accounted for, and the mercy will spread also to those that deny God.
My prayers are with all of you.

Be merry anyway!!  ;D

Oh, all right.

Here's a new one fior everybody: Happy HumanLight.

It's a real thing.

Joe, HumanLight is just building on Festivus, which is celebrated today, too! (The HumanLight people need better PR and a website compatible with Firefox.)

Happy December 23rd, whichever of today's holidays you celebrate! :D

Christmas Eve is my favorite time over the Christmas holidays.  That's when it's just my wife, stepson and I.  We just have a quiet evening, with some fine cheeses, crackers, all the nice hors d'oeurvry foods, and some non-alcoholic champagne.  We get into our favorite PJs and slippers, and maybe watch a Christmas movie or play a board game.  And we open 1 gift each on Christmas Eve (the rest in the morning).

Christmas Day, around 1PM, head off to my wife's side of the family.  This year, a non-traditional dinner potluck, with all different kinds of cuisine (we're bringing a curry dish). Gifts only for the nieces and nephews this year.  We decided instead of adult gift exchange, we would all put that money to buy a pig, three chickens and rooster for family in Africa.

Won't get together with my side of the family until Dec. 27th (everyone is so busy).  We'll have a more traditional Christmas dinner, at our house, this year.

For New Year's Eve, my wife and I made a reservation at East India Company (our favorite restaurant!)  Best Indian food in the city!

What are your plans for the holidays?

Can one OD on Mandarin oranges?  If so, I'm surely very close!

French Canadians such as myself refer to them as 'les oranges de Noel'.  Right, Andre?  :)

Ray,  Is it in the same family as clementine?  I just bought a box of those - product of Spain and a favorite around Christmas and New Year ...

Stuart, there are many varieties of the 'mandarin', or 'clementine' oranges.  Chinese mandarin, Japanese mandarin, Sumatsu, and I guess I've learned a new one - clementine.

I find I prefer the slightly smaller Japanese oranges the best!

Happy Chanukah and Happy holidays to all!
