You guys are GREAT! "See Dear, look how much that 16 foot pile of CDs saved me."

It just takes a little practice, Ken. Well, that, and the ability to shake off a few blows to the head...

Each day, I'm getting more comfortable with what I already have--I mean relatively.

Yeah, I am following your route too. It is a feeling that slows down the impulse purchases...     ::)
Hmm, but the Ricercar label is interesting.... and if there is a sale at BRO....  hmmmm...

I think Gurn meant, when the wife notices a particularly extravagent failure of restraint ...

My wife encourages me to purchase CDs.

I think she needs me to buy some CDs to justify or to feel less guilty about her far more expensive wardrobe outlay.
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

:D  Yes, that. In a figurative sort of way, of course. Damn, those books hurt!  :)

I've been very un-compulsive lately, perhaps because I am in debt up to my ears after taking my family on a transcontinental vacation.
BUT: couldn't resist the deals at Amazon.de -- I broke down last night and ordered both the Green Beethoven Box and the Scott Ross Scarlatti box.  This breaks two of my only rules: don't buy two boxes at once and don't buy anything I already have on my hard-drive (I actually have the Ross, and a good complete Beethoven (DG) in lossless form...) Oh, and I bought a baby Argerich box 3 days ago--but that was only 8 CDs, so kinda doesn't count as anything...
It's all good...

A billion here, a billion there, soon you're talking real money.

The Ross is a great set and you got a great price.

Yeah, you're right...I guess.  Actually, another key rule is: if it's top-drawer and under $2 a disc, it's worth buying.
It's all good...

Yes. I just got 78 superb discs from Abeille for 100 shipped. Too good to pass up, and kick myself for not buying later. I still regret not buyin the Sony Lenny box cheap.

We could save ourselves a lot of unnecessary trouble by merging this thread with the Super-Duper Bargain thread, don't you think?  ;)

Actually, we kind of tried by starting the "box blather" thread, but soon after there was a dearth of boxes, and it kind of fell by the wayside...

What would be your professional opinion on this irresistible urge to hunt hoard? 8)

Just a result of human evolution or a sublimation of other - unfulfilled - desires?   ::)

Or are we just killling time in a pleasant way? :)

Better hoarding CDs than lots of other stuff one see people hoarding, including power, influence, land, etc.....

A quite basic human instinct unfortunately.

Living our time in a pleasant way, I would say.

We are all in shortage of time, so there is no need for us to "kill" time.
Reality trumps our fantasy far beyond imagination.

157

This past week, 157.

Discs. 1.5.7.

SDCBT made me do it.

Only 160 bucks though.

Assuming my Bach Brats Box order holds up.

Mookalafalas

I got 172 this week, 164 of them after posting I am becoming un-compulsive lately ::)

About Q's question above, I don't think it's some knee-jerk psychological hoarding instinct--most of the time.  I listen to music for most of my waking hours, and with great joy.  I'm definitely not a "completist"--I only buy things I would really like to listen to, that I know is of the highest caliber, and is ridiculously cheap.  The problem is that there is soooo much music out there right now that meets these criteria.
It's all good...

That is the number of discs I have bought the past two months! Don't worry - I'll jump off the wagon. I always do. :)
