You have been hired to compile a "bleeding chunks" collection of Bruckner's music. It is to be a double-CD set.

Which chunks do you select?

This thread is beautiful :'(

CD1:
Locus iste
Mass No.3 - I. Kyrie
Salve Regina
Symphony No.9 - II. Scherzo
Libera me
Symphony No.6 - II. Adagio

CD2:
Helgoland
Mass No.3 - IV. Sanctus
Symphony No.7 - I. Allegro
Te Deum

One of these may require a magical 95 minute CD as well, but that's about as likely to happen as a Bruckner compilation, so hey :-*

The record execs will lop something off, I'm sure. You will not be consulted.

Thanks for playing, Lethe!  :)

The messed up thing about this is that I am actually considering what such a comp would sound like, and refining more and more how the transitions would work. I'm turning into a pervert :-\

Be sure to share the updated versions!

"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

I'm not worried about transitions. These are just some of my favorite chunks. I agree with Lethe: must end with the Te Deum.

CD1
Symphony #3 - First Movement
Symphony #4 - Scherzo
Symphony #5 - Fourth Movement
String Quintet - Adagio

CD2
Overture in G minor
Symphony #8 - Scherzo (the engine of heaven)
Symphony #6 - Adagio
Symphony #9 - Scherzo (the engine of hell)
Te Deum

How about the secret dream of a Bruckner geek that can never be admitted for fear of total rejection by every civilised human being, immediate appearance of a neck goitre, development of a sloping gait and alarming tics: a double the usual length length choral symphony. While we can't overlay, some juxaposition can be done:

CD1:
Section 1:
Symphony No.9 - I. Allegro
Symphony No.9 - II. Scherzo

Section 2 (Interlude):
Helgoland

Section 3:
Symphony No.8 - I. Allegro
Aequale No.1 & 2 (these really should be fused into a bridge)

CD2:
Symphony No.6 - II. Adagio

Section 4 (Interlude):
Te Deum

Section 5:
Symphony No.4 - III. Scherzo
Symphony No.5 - IV. Finale

Because of the nature of this topic, I detect the DNA of the Schalk family in Beethovenian!!!   :o

Must include:

Symphony 3 - IV
Symphony 4 - I, III
Symphony 7 - II
Symphony 8 - IV
Te Deum

Obviously you can't include the whole of 9, otherwise that would be an essential addition. Best to leave it off entirely then; something for the newbies to look forward to.
