How do you guys get that cool screen above the list to appear?

On the top right corner, just left of the search window of iTunes is a view option. You'll need version 7+ of iTunes to get that, but there are three view options... one is a list, the other is list with album art and the last is "Cover Flow". You can even set that to Full screen if you just want large bits of album art to show on your screen. :)

Just found it! Thanks!  :)

Well, if we're now showing how we tag in general, here's how I do it. You'll note I keep things very, very simple. Why? When you've got a 1.5" screen on your MP3 player, and you're walking across London while trying to select a track, you don't need tonnes of info to scroll through just to find what you want. ;D

Mark, you use WM?  :o

Yes, and for two reasons:

1) It syncs flawlessly with Creative MP3 players - my preferred brand

2) I prefer the way it lays out tracks for selection - iTunes does my head in with its 'one-line-this-colour-the-next-line-that' way of displaying what's in the library

Just for you, Steve, here's how my tagging system looks in iTunes.

You'll notice a few interesting things. First, that I never bother with 'adagio' or 'con brio', etc, when titling tracks. Second, that I re-title each album to feature only the main work, using [et al] to indicate other tracks are also on there. Third, that I list ALL performers in the Artist field, irrespective of whether or not they all perform on each track. And finally, that I don't just settle for the generic 'Classical' for Genre. I use the following four categories instead:

Orchestral: includes symphonies, concerti and tone poems, etc
Chamber: more than a single instrument, but fewer than would constitute 'Orchestral'
Vocal: everything with voices as the main focus, including opera
Instrumental: solo instrument works

This way, if I'm in the mood to shuffle-play by Genre, I don't get the third movement of Mahler's Fifth Symphony suddenly spoiling the calm created by a piece of Renaissance polyphony! ;D

this is interesting, why do you use internet explorer when you have firefox installed?

Mark

I find the Firefox interface unattractive to look at. My wife prefers it, as she belongs to forums which crash out sessions quite a lot ... and of course, Firefox just restores these automatically. :)
