Which one of the following?

Delius > Elgar > Holst
Delius > Holst > Elgar
Elgar > Delius > Holst
Elgar > Holst > Delius
Holst > Delius > Elgar
Holst > Elgar > Delius
Delius > [ Elgar = Holst ]
Elgar > [ Delius = Holst ]
Holst > [ Delius = Elgar ]
[ Delius = Elgar ] > Holst
[ Delius = Holst ] > Elgar
[ Elgar = Holst ] > Delius
Delius = Elgar = Holst

The random confluence of having occasion today to remark how iffy "equation" is in matters of art, and observing elsewhere that these three composers all died the same year, inspired this little 'puzzle'.

Please play, and I am sure no one takes it quite seriously.

There is, of course, only one sensible and reasonable answer: Holst > Elgar > Delius.

What first appeared to be too many choices turns out to be too little choices. Hummm...

I admit I am surprised that one voter values two voters value Delius above the other two.

But this was all about observing the variety.

Ask and you shall receive! I did so just for the variety.  >:D

The last option could conceivably encompass the Banana vote . . . .

If the poll closes NOW, Delius would be the winner!  ;D :D ;)

I am not planning to close the voting;  that was a decision at the time of the initial post, and not a result of Delius's early front-runner status  :D

What a disappointment, Karl. When I read the thread title, I thought you were meeting me at Wonderland.

So now I know the identity of the other person who voted that way.  ;)

That may just be my favorite public transportation stop name.

All we need is a streetcar named Wonderland  :)

Let's face it, how could Delius or Elgar possibly 'outrank' Holst? :)

Or at least a ballroom.   :)

I like Delius better than Elgar, and Elgar better than Holst.

Elgar > Delius > Holst

Elgar (composed great and inspired works, the 2nd Symphony, the Cello Concerto among others) > Delius (he composed at least a masterpiece, "Sea Drift") > Holst (he didn't).

Lethevich

I'd place RVW in front of all of them (although only slightly ahead of Elgar). Slightly later generation but pretty similarly disassociated from the second half of the 20th century.

I know it's not very cool to admit to thinking the Planets is great, but Holst has other great works such as The Hymn of Jesus. I would rank him way, way ahead of Delius (who is great sometimes) in terms of inspiration and diversity...
