Geez, I was almost a schoolmate of the president! I almost went to Oxy. But instead I went to Cal State LA via s tay in PCC (because I couldn't afford Oxy). 1400 Colorado Blvd. is about 50 yards from Cindy's Restaurant, and 100 yards from Trader Joe's. And I often played baseball with friends right under that Eagle Rock.

Good old Trader Joe's. I used to shop in there every so often. Wish we had a Trader Joe's here in Vienna along with In-N-Out Burger. Oh well, one can dream... ;D

I lived on College View Ave. which was named so because you can see Occidental College from this street (or at least we could see Oxy from our house). So what years were you living in Eagle Rock? I was living there from the mid 1950s until the early 1980s. Who knows, maybe we crossed paths at the Eagle Rock Mall if you were living there during that time.  8)

I believe Trader Joe's is where our SO CAL friends snag us a bag of this from time to time:

There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

This feels right for a young creative person like me.
I'm young, too, but I absolutely hate the entire LA area. :( I'm quite happy now moving up to Berkeley, though many of my friends go and will go to UCLA.

I was there between 1980 and 1987. Yes, I go to the Eagle Rock Mall often, bought my first sneakers at McCann's, my first burger at Bob's Big Boys, watched E.T. at the movie theatre, etc. I also went to Oxy for a few recitals. I had a couple of friends living on College View whom I visited a few times. They were members of the Rotary Club. I was a member later at the Pasadena Club.
Do what I must do, and let what must happen happen.

It's all what you make of it.  But I know that with 80% of the good used record stores gone, and once the good touring rock acts are gone (soon) as well, LA will not be as interesting for me personally.  But I like the weather here better than the SF area for sure.
