BMW

Have used this forum for some time now to research recordings with positive results and finally figured I ought to join!  I am an American college student getting ready to begin my fourth year as a music education major.

That is all for now -- off to the threads!

Welcome aboard the forum -  :D  We'll have to convince you to explore the 18th century, too!  (of course, if not already done) -  ;D

:)  It has been done but I will admit to it not being as extensive as with the mid to late 19th century.  I know that studying theory (counterpoint in particular) has increased my appreciation for many of the 18th century composers immensely, on both the musical and technical level.

But I will always (well, most of the time) take my Bach (the Master of them all!) non-HIP thank you!  ;D

Welcome on board :)

I suppose at least record labels will be grateful that there's one person out there still buying Brandenburg 5 played on a Steinway-A?   :P

:D  Though HIP recordings are usually pretty neat for one or two listens (and the liner notes are always fascinating) I cannot think of any off the top of my head that I would enjoy repeatedly...leave those to be checked out from the library to satisfy curiosity and for research purposes.  Though one or two of them (Gardiner's Don Giovanni is one) drew my attention to aspects of the score I had not noticed before, I was then able to catch them in an uninformed versions which I now love even more!  (I have had similar experiences listening to piano transcriptions of orchestral works but I get a lot more pleasure out of those than ultra-fast, anemic performances of Messiah)
