Mezzo has on their website the April 18th performance of John Adams's Nixon in China in a new production, directed by Chen Shi-Zheng a native of Changsha, now living and working in New York. He has chosen Asians for the main roles, Mao and Chou, and a lot of Chinese in the chorus and ballet, giving the opera a more authentic feeling. The voices are outstanding with June Anderson as Pat Nixon, Sumi Jo as Mrs. Mao and Franco Pomponi as Richard Nixon. Great playing of Adams's music and lively conducting. Try something new and up-to-date for a change. - I think ARTE also broadcasts this fascinating performance. -
