I've spoken to Magnus Lindberg twice. I found him painfully shy. I've corresponded with Per Nørgård, but our only meeting in person was brief since seemingly every young would-be composer in Denmark competes for his attention, even though he doesn't officially take students anymore.

Here in Helsinki, it's commonplace to see Finnish composers at concerts. I've seen Kaija Saariaho, Kimmo Hakola, Eero Hameenniemi and Leif Segerstam among the crowd having a drink during intermission. I haven't spoken to them because I didn't have anything to ask, but everyone looks approachable and friends have conversed with them.

I met a member of the second violin section of the San Francisco Symphony on an airport shuttle in Austin Texas.  Some time later I attended a SFS concert in Davies Hall and there she was, up on the stage, performing Mahler 10.  I had this fantasy that she would see me in the third row and catapult off the stage to talk to me again, but alas it didn't happen.   :'(

Are you all impressed now?

I met one of the Houston Symphony's first violins after a concert. He was putting on a leather jacket and helmet, because he rides a motorcycle to each concert. Got to see him off - waved goodbye as he weaved into traffic on his Honda bike, coattails still flapping and violin case strapped onto him like a backpack. It was funny.

I and some other Rice U students got to have a Q&A session with Helene Grimaud. One student asked this question:

Q. What advice would you have for a young pianist just starting out?
A. If you can do anything else, do that instead. (laughter) No, I'm serious. (grins)

It's too bad Iago is no longer with us. He met some of the greats working at Tanglewood.

oab, there's one problem with this, aside from XB-70's superb photoshopping skills.

And that is, while we all know what Julia looks like (boy howdy), do any of us know what XB-70 looks like? So any picture of Julia with any random dude....

Otherwise, why isn't Maria Ewing more famous than she is? (Be fair, she's a big fan of the chromalveolate hypothesis, and how many people can you say that of? Though I understand she's a bit skeptical about whether plastid-related characters support that hypothesis, which is only sensible.)

they are romantically involved, no? So, how many pictures  are out there of Julia Fischer being intimate with someone?  I demand XB-70 Valkyrie to post a picture of him being intimate with Julia. I'm not asking anything sexual, a kiss, a hug, something that proves the existence of their relationship.

There is no reason to invade their privacy in that way. I can confirm that he is indeed in a serious relationship with Miss Fischer. I know this for a fact because Hélène Grimaud and I often go on double dates with XB-70 and Julia. They are adorable together.

Stop fibbing, Sarge. We all know you won't let a cat like that out of the bag with Mrs. Rock reading the forum. ;)

She turns a blind eye, and in return the Sarge pretends not to notice her longstanding liaison with Ricardo Muti.    ::)

I heard it was the younger and fair-haired Esa-Pekka... Maybe I was wrong...

It's a Riccardo, then -- not Muti, but Chailly. ;D

Superhorn

Years ago,I went backstage after a Chicago Symphony concert when it was on tour in New York City and long Island to congratulate him, and met the conductor Peter Maag after a performance of Die Zauberflote at the Met while in college and a group class went to the performance.
Also in college, I went with a class to see the composer George Crumb speak about his music.
I also took some courses at Hofstra University with the late composer Elie Siegmeister ,who was on the faculty, and the New York City Opera bass Herbert Beattie, whom I got to know fairly we,, and is a very interesting man.
I've played under some well-known conductors, such as Joann Falletta, Maurice Peress, and Arthur Weisberg among others, and have met the great clarinettist Stanely Drucker several times, and once met him by chance on the Long Island Railroad !
I also met the late, great horn player Philip Farkas at the New York Brass conference in Manhattan in the 70s, and a number of other well-known classical musicians over the years.
I also studied horn with the well-known horn player William Purvis, a famous soloist and also a member of the Orpheus Chamber orchestra.

So that uncomfortable fling with Loren Maazel is over?

She hooked up with Lenny too, during his short-lived bearded period.

Do you mean you are wondering whether it is funny?

Well, fine, I'll take your word for it.
