I love the Royal Hospital in Chelsea, designed by Christopher Wren (of St Paul's fame) and home to the Chelsea Pensioners. Few realise that it is open to the public but I've always found it to be a very peaceful and beautiful place to walk around when I'm in that part of London.

And here are some Chelsea Pensioners!

In the Kern River Canyon, a "classic" U-shaped trench cut by glaciers that's a mile deep, just west of Mt. Whitney there's a hot spring that feeds a tub only a few feet from a sheltered pool in the icy river.  Watch out for rattlesnakes and aggressive bears.

Well, I'm not going there for my holiday then.  :o

I love the countryside in Thailand, anytime you can get away from the major cities.  We've just returned from a trip there, which included the remote Mae Hong Son province in the NW corner of Thailand.  To get there from the major airport of Chiang Mai, you need to thread some some twisty mountain roads-- they brag it takes more than 1800 turns to get there.  The valley that Mae Hong Son is in is often ringed by clouds.

Every morning the monks take to the streets for their alms walk, where the townspeople can earn merit by giving them food.

The Temple architecture there is also different-- reflecting a lot of Burmese and some Chinese influences.

Whenever I'm there, I tend to hear a lot of French Impressionist Piano works playing in my head...

I love Barcelona & the buildings & designs of Antoni Gaudí.  Eusebi Güell commissioned Gaudi to design a church for his workers' town Colònia Güell.

I'm not religious but I like the story of the Colony. The church is cool on the hottest day & I find it calming.
