Kisnevi - Saw your comments about the Faust scenes.  I strongly recommend the Herreweghe performance, which is uniformly excellent.  Avoid the old recording with Britten conducting.

I have been enjoying the duet In Der Nacht (Alle gingen, Herz, zur Ruh).

The suprano sings her love to the night == and then one minute in a  coup de theatre extraordinaire. Her lover, who has been waiting  in the shadows, starts to meld and mix his voice with hers. It's an amazing moment.

My problem is that the only version I have is with Fi Di and Mrs Fi Di (Julia Varady) -- both of whom I don't like much.

Any suggestions for a better recording of this song -- and maybe some other duets?

The Jan de Gaetani/Leslie Guinn recording with Schumann duets is pretty good (very cheap in Europe if still available). Then there are Lotte Lehmann & Melchior w/orchestra in "Er und sie" and others -

I'd love to hear Simoneau & Alarie sing some of these duets, but I have never seen their CD of Mozart & Schumann duets in Europe (it's $16.99 from Naxos direct download, too much for me).
Merry Saturnalia, everyone!
The Violin's Obstinacy

It needs to return to this one note,
not a tune and not a key
but the sound of self it must depart from,
a journey lengthily to go
in a vein it knows will cripple it.

Highly recomended for the Dichterliebe. Her voice is bitingly ironic and Rieman's piano playing is the best I have heard in these songs. This is the most beautiful Fassbaender lieder  record I've heard
