What ones are there that exist? Recent ones.....or the most recent ones people know. What new ballets are being created with original music? As I understand it, there are many many ballets around recycling old music rather than commissioning new scores.......I'm interested to know what new scores have been composed recently. :)

I know of precisely one. It's by Phillip Feeney and was commissioned by the Northern Ballet four or five(?) years ago for a new production of Cinderella. I don't know if the choreography is new too, but the music definitely is. I'm only aware of it because I was dating a woman who danced it with that company and that's all I remember her telling me about it.

"You overestimate my power of attraction," he told her. "No, I don't," she replied sharply, "and neither do you".

You have not heard of this, first of all, because it is not done (although arguably what I have as yet finished is more substantial than some finished ballets).  And secondly, because when it is done, it is anyone's guess when it might actually be danced (or performed in concert).  But now that my Mass and Symphony are done, once I am done with the Clarinet Sonata, as well, my plan is to wrap up White Nights.

Well I sure do hope it does get performed! So far this thread has barely any replies....I would love to see some Henningmusick with choreography. :)

Ballet BC's trail-blazing Emily Molnar meets her musical match with innovative composer Nicole Lizée. Alberta Ballet's eminent and prolific Jean Grand-Maître joins forces with multiple award-winning new music visionary Andrew Staniland; and Guillaume Côté, gifted dancer and choreographic associate with the National Ballet of Canada, is perfectly paired with noted emerging composer Kevin Lau.

2016 London,: The Royal Ballet's Artist in Residence Liam Scarlett has become known for ballets that marry highly expressive movement, sophisticated musical response and dark psychological depth – in such works for The Royal Ballet as Asphodel Meadows, Sweet Violets and The Age of Anxiety on the main stage and Hansel and Gretel in the Linbury Studio Theatre. Now he creates his first full-length work for the main stage with Frankenstein, a period adaptation of Mary Shelley's Gothic tale of morality and our craving for love, companionship and understanding.
For this new work Scarlett has assembled a number of regular collaborators. American composer Lowell Liebermann, whose First Piano Concerto provides the music for Scarlett's Viscera, composes a new score.

The Grammy nominated Max Richter has joined forces with the Royal Opera House for a new ballet, Woolf Works, based on the life of Virginia Woolf.
Known for his merging of classical music with modern technology, Richter is not only a composer but a pianist, producer and collaborator.
He has worked with choreographer Wayne McGregor on this latest collaboration, and he explained how the idea came about.

Yesterday (May24th):

Like a moth to the flame, Blanche DuBois, opens the show as a curious creature drawn to a single light bulb; a stunning piece of imagery for a stunning ballet. "This vibrant adaptation by Scottish Ballet of the classic Tennessee Williams tale, A Streetcar Named Desire, brings the heat and music of New Orleans straight to The Music Center. The definitive Pulitzer Prize-winning drama is transformed into a powerful and emotional ballet that not only excites, but further enhances the story's suspenseful take on lust, desire and betrayal that can only be conveyed by the honesty of dance.  In collaboration with director Nancy Meckler and choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, the production explores the boundaries of narrative ballet through a range of dance styles. Accompanied by a specially commissioned jazz-inspired score by Peter Salem that accentuates the sensuality of the dancers, Scottish Ballet's  A Streetcar Named Desire is a one-of-a-kind take on an American classic."
