I have been looking for a cd of the complete seasons for quite some time now. Weird enough, i could not find one until now, and it's rather expensive on Md&g:

An appealing programme of other small pieces by Tchaikovsky are also included. Is there a better alternative though?

Harry

No, my friend there is not. There was a Naxos cd with Iylona Prunyi, quite a accomplish player, but that one is OOP now.
So if you want them snatch this MDG up, is a good one I assure you! :)

Another vote for the Ilonya Punyi which is very good but there is even better here

They are both the same recording but with the second you also get a great Pathetique

Seconded to the latter Pletnev CD, a fantastic bargain! Picked it up in an HMV sale a few years ago for 300 English pennies...

Not complete, but do try and hear Richter playing this music.

Postnikova recorded the whole piano works in 7 cds (released by Erato).

There's an old recording by Konstantin Igumnov of the Grand Sonata and the Seasons. But I think it's OOP now.

Check The Broadcasts corner and download the Igumnov files there.

I second the suggestion for Pletnev.

For the seasons alone, Ashkenazy recorded a nice version. Pletnev is good too, and comes in a cheap double disc (one with the Pathetique, one with the Pictures, one on a 4 disc set)
