Is it meant to be that bad?

Compare with the documentary First Position about various teens and pre-teens training for a ballet competition. Here's the trailer:

Not really a valid comparison. It's not dance per se, but narrative pantomime. Compare Mac from 1993 with a more recent NYC Ballet nutcracker prince from 2011 (go to the 59 minute mark). And who knew the cute little blond boy was to grow up to become (ugh) Macaulay Culkin?

However there are certain things IMO that are beyond criticism, and to this New Yorker one of them is the New York City Ballet's Nutcracker as choreographed by George Balanchine.

I would have thought that starting a whole thread for this one video rather than adding it to an existing thread meant we were going to see something impressive.

It wasn't. So I suggested something that was. I was also anticipating the comeback that you can't criticize him for not being an impressive dancer because he's just a kid.

Actually I thought this thread was just a troll, but it reminded me of a much more worthy recommendation.

Do you mean that the Macaulay Culkin of today is a scuzzball?

Of course a 45-year-old guy will never be beautiful, graceful and innocent as a 10-year-old boy, but is Culkin a bad guy today?

;D It's okay as @(poco) Sforzando suggested, I got over it.

Well...to be frank, I find this obsession with Macaulay Culkin a little on the creepy side. I remember you from the other classical forum you used to frequent in which you were banned several times. Each account you had, if I'm remembering correctly, Macaulay Culkin as a kid was your avatar. I mean the guy is 44 yrs. old now, how about an adult avatar for a change?

Who are you? What nickname do you have there?

Yes, I was banned three times, and the third ban was permanent. People tend to think that if you get banned from a forum it means that you are a bad guy, but in reality I was always polite and I was banned for unfair reasons.

The first time it was because I told a user something like that

The snobbery of many people in this forum towards some artists is embarassing for the classical community. "You are the NOTHING, not even a hair of Beethoven's scrotum"

The moderators thought that the statement in the quotation marks was an offense towards the user, but in reality it was a description of the attitude of many users towards some classical artists.

After I explained the real meaning, the moderators didn't remove my sanction.

The second time I was banned because I opened a discussion about the incidental music of Mendelssohn for "Antigone" and I wrote that it's an example of a classical soundtrack.

Since I was permanently banned from my own discussion, "Why do many people think that classical music composed for film scores is not classical music?", the moderators told me that I couldn't open a new discussion about the subject.
In reality, my intention was not to start a new discussion about the subject, but to discuss about the quality of the work of Mendelssohn, and my observation that it was a classical soundtrack was only a joke.
I received a 40-days-ban for a joke!

The third and permanent ban was because a user reported to moderators something that I wrote in an other forum.
I still don't understand how something that I wrote in an other forum can violate the rules of Talkclassical!

Various users were sad because of my ban and they dind't understand the reason. This means that I was not a "web criminal". When a user is really harassing, the users are not sad when he's banned, don't you think? So, it probably means that the moderators of Talkclassical simply have an authoritarian attitude!

QuoteEach account you had, if I'm remembering correctly, Macaulay Culkin as a kid was your avatar.

I had only ONE account: HansZimmer. My first avatar was Elisey Mysin, then I changed it with Kevin. So yes, in the last period, when I was banned, it was Kevin.

Now Kevin is my standard avatar in all forums.

QuoteI mean the guy is 44 yrs. old now, how about an adult avatar for a change?

My intention is to put Kevin as an avatar, not Macaulay Culkin.

Kevin is an eternal child, like Peter Pan. Even in 2400, when people will watch Home Alone at Christmas, Kevin will be still the same.

Macaulay Culkin, on the other hand, will be a skeleton.

Kevin is timeless. Culkin is not.

In the real world Kevin is dead, but in the fictional world of Home Alone he will always exist, and he will always look the same.

If you prefer the adult version of Culkin you can put it in your avatar. I dont' see the problem!  ;)

The question is whether that is a rhetorical question.

I'm sure that is what most banned former members say.

The vast majority, if not all forum moderators are on a volunteer basis. They don't ban anyone without a legitimate reason and after much careful consideration.

This thread will be locked, as whatever discussion could arise around the cameo appearance of a child actor in a ballet seems to have run its course, and GMG is not the place to discuss events, or air grievances, that relate to other fora.
