The pioneering spirit is obviously still alive in Holland!

But why have our Dutch writers here at GMG been so silent about this incredible event, which took place last week?!

See:

And:

And lest ye think it is just a stunt devoid of musico-politico significance:

And of course...check YouTube!!!

I just came across this:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2010/sep/13/first-klingon-opera-lifts-off

QuoteThe group spent a year developing the opera, including a residency at New York's Watermill Center, which was founded by Einstein On the Beach director Robert Wilson. "They're really being very serious," remarked the director of the Byrd Hoffman Watermill Foundation. "I think it really is the result that matters, and I found the result quite fascinating and interesting and strange and weird."

(My emphasis above).   8)

I worry about people who could be serious about a Klingon opera. Truly, I do.

Yes; the idea of writing an opera based on mythical characters contending in an imaginary world is quite unprecedented, if not to say pointless.

My experience from Star Trek is the Klingons behave like typical characters in a Verdi opera.   8)

I actually enjoy it more than some 'real' opera.

Hard to believe, I know, because the Dutch have a reputation for being so sensible.

On the other hand, it could just as easily have been perpetrated by people from certain odd areas in America, like Maine or the Upper Peninsula of Michigan or the ultimate area for the bizarre, LaLaLand!   :o
