Quote from: Papy Oli on September 24, 2024, 01:45:56 PMBordeaux played in their own stadium last Saturday, with a max crowd gauge of 12,000. Nice to see a full kop back.

Went 2-0 down at HT after a dismal 45 minutes. Much better in the second half. Monsieur Carroll scored twice in the last  15 minutes to salvage a point. I think we already love him.

According to some local reports, he is on the fourth division pay level (3 to 4K euros) a month and playing for the sporting challenge of it all. He has been allegedly financially careful during his career and not been seeking paychecks like in Saudi. He just wants to have fun in his career end. Not sure how long that will go as his Family lives in London.

Still if he scores a brace at each game, we'll give him a statue  :P

(Only our third Englishman ever after Clive Allen and Josh Maja...who now scores for fun in the championship. Damn, he was so badly used in his days at our club).

Reports in redtops today that Carroll's marriage to Billi Mucklow is over and they are seeking a divorce.

Saw that this morning. The gods don't want anything touching Bordeaux to be happy  :(

(That said, we won our first FA cup round 5-0 today. Andy was rested. That was against a division 9 team...another 14 rounds and we could meet a Ligue 1 team.. :P )

PS: if you want Andy back at West Ham, it's 100 million euros  >:D

Good to hear that Olivier, tad early for a statue though. Carroll at no time relied on pace so passing years would not be that big an issue.

Cracking day at the London Stadium yesterday. The whole team played well and a fellow countryman of your good self, Jean-Clair Todibo with only his second start smashed it! A future French international, nailed on. He get's West Ham too which is not always the case with foreign players.

He's become a loved legend of the club in only this matter of months by his attitude on and off the pitch, and how refreshing he is in his attitude. He's simply been that beacon of light shining out of 10 years of continued darkness  ;D

We've somehow managed to climb back up to second in the table, within 5 points of the leader (halfway through the season), with only that top stop guaranteeing that much-needed promotion.

Sadly he got injured last weekend and could be sidelined for a while. We'll have to cope with him and without this over-reliability on his game impact.

The liquidation/debt management continues on the side. The dodgy owner still had to put his own money in to keep it going, for now.

Oliver Kahn is apparently linking with a Saudi fund and has started initial talks with the club's owner. Good news, bad news ? No idea.

I posted as his name came up in a "Hammers Chat" podcast last week. He is enjoying life in France and banging in goals. Love to know what the natives make of a geordie accent. ???

How about them Hammers then ? You're level on points with the worst Man U team in 147 years so there's always that  :P

Seeing some improvements under Graham Potter ? That's quite an appointment for you, I think.

or are you missing the Moyes Day already?

(I always had the impression Moyes was hard done by and found to be good in hindsight only. Case in point at Man U when he turned out to have had better results with that team than many bigger named coaches that replaced him).

in the Premier League, Arsenal is there or thereabouts but just not finding enough consistency. The injuries and lack of a proper striker are coming to bite us again. Liverpool looks unassailable though.

I am keeping an eye on my "other" team too, Ipswich town, I hope somehow they will scrape by and stay up this time.

Moyes days were done and frankly delighted to see the back of him. Only West Ham could go out and replace him with someone worse! Julen Lopetegui was a disastrous appointment in every respect and I feel sorry for Potter having to sort the mess Lopetegui left behind.

The story for me of the current EPL season is Nottingham Forest. I love the way they have crashed into the party of the greedy Sky six. My club had the opportunity to do the same a couple of years ago but lacked the ambition of NF owners. I hope and pray Nottingham Forest elbow one of the greedy six aside and qualify for Champions League next season.

Ipswich will stay up, if they don't their coach isn't as good as everyone says he is. Their forward line on paper is outstanding led by Liam Delap, who after Woods at Nottingham Forest, the most inform striker in the EPL.

Ipswich has definitely improved but it's unclear how much that will lead to improved results. Staying in the league is always challenging for newly promoted teams, and the last couple of years seem to have been particularly so.

Very true. Extremely difficult for promoted sides. Do they invest when they are likely to be relegated the following season? Leeds, Sheffield United and Burnley amongst others are yoyo clubs, too good for the Championship and not good enough for the Premier League. Clubs can buck the trend, Nottingham Forest managed to survive the first season of promotion and they are now in a Champions League place. Or it can go the other way, Huddersfield Town made it to the promised land and now a few short years later languishing in the third tier of English football.

Well, they'll be "concentrating on the League" after the next round of the FA Cup  ;D

As a long time Liverpool supporter, I can assure you there is no lead so large they cannot squander, and no 'certain thing' they cannot completely turn to dog gravy.

I watch with interest. Well, curiosity, at least.
