I agree, he can provide an extraordinary atmosphere and even on that one instrument he makes the textures shimmer.

Can't imagine why that might be.  >:D

Try the English Canzonettas. They are even in your language...   0:)

THere's btw quite delightful Chopin Song called "Moja Pieszczotka" (My Sweetheart :-*) , for some of you it may be familiar through Liszt's piano transcription.
Here's Chopin's original voice-piano version;

The major question one should ask is whether we'll be able to squeeze John Cage's 4'33 in this two minute limit...

;)

     Have you heard the Stokowski transcription? Of course he takes liberties.....

Antonio Caldara's Come raggio di sol.

It is simple, but it is so perfect! I don't know whether it is the greatest, but it is wonderful.

I always liked Gigli's old recording, but couldn't find it on youtube. However,  by chance I found a recording by an old guy, a countertenor, recording it in his garage accompanied by a midi file. I saw the picture and thought, o my, this is going to be rich.  Much to my surprise, it's amazing--he has a beautiful voice and his interpretation is well nigh perfect.

Has anyone mentioned any of the early Haydn Sonatas yet? There are a few with movements under a minute or two long.

It's about 4 seconds long.  It goes like this, ahem.   "La, la la la".   :P

When I first looked at this, I thought it said Ludus toenails.    :-[

That's only for pianists who play with their feet.
"I don't know what sforzando means, though it clearly means something."

Pianist playing with nose?   ???

I'm sure Ravel had something to do with that...
