I am so not a Chet Baker fan.

There: I said it. And I'm glad, I tell you!
; )

Pangs me just a little to see Dolphy so far down that list, though I cannot really argue the point. He died too young.

Glenn Miller hasn't fallen off. Shall we push him?

I like your thinking!

The top ten are pretty strong, though honestly I wonder if Billy Holiday isn't up quite there as a feminist spike.

No, she's the ultimate jazz singer...so they say.

I need to revisit the DeVeaux/Giddins tome Jazz . . . .

Can't not like Ella. I even like that she blew the words to "Mack the Knife."

Brian

Ella's the top singer for me. I heard her cover of "Over the Rainbow" on the radio once and I actually cried.

Clearly you need to watch this movie.

It will make you like Chet Baker, for a moment, at least. Also, as an added incentive, the scene from which the below still is taken is one of the funniest, sweetest moments from any new movie I've seen in the last few years. Once you see these three characters sitting on a bench, prepare yourself for a rare moment of movie magic.

Lennie Tristano 17 places below Chick Corea? And John McLaughlin isn't even a real Jazz artist, more like technical masturbation. This list is useless.  >:D

I have seen the trailer for it, and thanks for reminding me! I do want to watch that one. My non-enthusiasm for Chet Baker notwithstanding ; )

I just found my favorite scene (pictured in that post) on YouTube and watched it again. Gosh!  ;D A 3:00 uninterrupted take with unmoving camera - I hadn't remembered that. At some point this year, I'll convince somebody with a television to have a movie night party dedicated to this.

I don't know much about him but he was pretty good in Playboy

I would still switch places with Wayne Shorter.

Can you list Brubeck and not list Desmond?
Men profess to be lovers of music, but for the most part they give no evidence in their opinions and lives that they have heard it.  ~ Henry David Thoreau

Don't pray when it rains if you don't pray when the sun shines. ~ Satchel Paige

Andante

How about Esbjorn Svensson a Swedish Pianist, sadly no longer with us his trio (Dan Berglund double bass and  Magnus Öström drums) made some fantastic recordings.
Andante always true to his word has kicked the Marijuana soaked bot with its addled brain in to touch.

Didn't he take a trolley to the jeweller's store?
