I'm working on ripping music too, but it's reripping lossless.  Thank god Itunes keeps tagging info.  I would hate to do that all over.  Well sometimes I still have to.

David, I now do so much travel that it is good to have my blood supply with me, or is it my 'fix'. Whatever.

Scarpia, I take your point, but there are also exactly opposite opinions and we can't keep everyone happy. In fact I don't ever try to do that, a doomed and exhausting concept.

I do think it should be normal to discuss the matter with the originator before merging topics.

Jesus! This is becoming quite the saga isn't it. I guess we hadn't had a soap opera story arc in a few weeks.  ::)

I didn't even think of "my thread" as "my thread." But now that it is "my thread," I guess I ... well not really am obligated to defend it, so much as feel uncommon pity for its progress from perfectly honorable thread to retarded bastard sterile mule-child of redundancy and a lapse of good sense. I created the thread because there were future releases (ie, "next month on Naxos," "pre-releases" on MDT, newly announced projects, etc) that I was keen to order, or hear, or at least read people's reviews about to find out if they lived up to expectations (  :P ). And I didn't know where to post that kind of thing. Classical Chat Thread, maybe. Recordings You Are Considering... no, because nobody can advise me whether to buy a CD that's due in 2012.

So the way I perceive it is sort of a time spectrum continuum business:

release date:
PAST                           PRESENT                                 FUTURE
<----------------------------------------------------------------------->
RYAC..................RYAC/MW/Hurwitz/Henk.....................RYALFT

Which I guess is similar to another spectrum:

<------------------------------------------------------------------------------>
Normal........eccentric.........daft........insane.....GMG avg........Sean

Also the spectrum of this whole debate:

LOW                         INSPIRED INTERLUDE                    LOW AGAIN
<-------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
Henk..............knight sandpapers his privates..............this whole debacle

;D :D ;D
the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Brian, Well defended and to me there was no problem with your poor old sterile thread. Must go see if it is getting any traffic through all this wonderful, free publicity!

My opinion is that Sean was more extreme than you suggest. He was out there where the buses don't run, ever.

Guys, it's not easy to get people actually read what you are writing. That makes it difficult and therefor I don't care much more.

To tell the truth: I didn't want Knight to delete my thread called "New and exciting recordings", I didn't agree with Knight's decision and have told him that. However afterwards I admitted that I better could have suggest to rename the existing thread, or combine Brian's thread and another thread dealing with the same topic. I'm using Brian's thread now, which Knight has renamed to accommodate my needs, but am still not quite satisfied with it, because it's poorly defined and ambiguous.

In contrast to DavidW I think the concept is good. It's nice to have a separate thread dealing only with new recordings.

I have learned from this and I hope Knight has also. I have never had a problem with Knight on this issue, because he's always very gentle. But in general I think the Mods can do their job better and more effectively I think.

I don't mind Brian expressing that he has low opinion about me, since I called him a snob ;D.

Henk, Not that I want to spread entrails across a bed of lettuce. But I locked the thread then you told me to delete it. It only had one music post on it and I left it up there to enable you to copy it before it went west.

You asked me to delete this thread, but I did not want further misunderstandings on that score. Once we all get bored with it, it will sink.

Anyway.....it has remained at the knock-about fun level to a large extent.

I think we leave the threads as named and give it a try. It will either work or not and if not, well, I consol myself that no one died. (Possibly a hasty prediction.)

Cheers,

Knight

But that's exactly the point of the thread. It's a thread for discussion of future CDs and things you want to hear, and that's that. I don't want to stand like a policeman outside the thread, checking every item and saying, "You can't post that in here!" If the reader of the thread thinks their comment fits in the thread, then it fits. I am not a thread nazi. I made the thread because there were upcoming CDs that sounded like they'd be good, and beyond that, I don't care. It's meant to be "ambiguous." It's "ambiguous" so that everybody can post whatever they want.

Good points, Brian.

I asked you by PM to remove the thread I started this weekend called "Philosophical ideas about music" and later to lock and delete this thread. It was your own decision to lock and remove the thread "New and exciting recordings". I didn't agree with at all, therefor I started this thread, just read my initial post in this thread.

Well, I don't see it that way and the thing is in the bin now, so it can't be consulted. Now.....do remember it had one music post in it and other than that; a whole bunch of posts asking why you started it and so here that has been fully explored, but I am not clear you have won any adherants.

As I think I suggested before, this kind of thing has little connection with real life. I am going for a meal now. Nice evening, afternoon or morning folks.

Because it's ambiguous I think it's not a nice thread. You can also see it that way, instead of complimenting yourself not being a "thread nazi".

A thread is not determined by the title.  A thread is determined by what happens on the thread (which is influenced by the title, of course).

You always tell "party trues" (thesises) having to add something polysemic to it, covering it.

Sure, people don't agree with you so you assume they aren't actually reading what you write.  I think folks are reading what you write and finding it of little substance.  You need to get off this kick of yours and move on.

I just made a general remark about the character of internet communication on a forum like this.

If that's how you feel, what are you doing here?
