Wishing everyone who celebrates it a very Happy Thanksgiving!  Hope that you are able to be with friends and/or family.

And a belated Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian members too.  :)

All the best,

Here in Ohio - in our section at least - we will have some snow tomorrow: things should look very pretty!

We already baked the pumpkin pie!   8)

Mmmm...yum!  Do you used canned pumpkin or use a fresh sugar pumpkin?

Canned: we tried a few times making our own puree from a fresh pumpkin, but it was a great amount of work and the taste was not all that great!   ???

So, back to a name-brand can of pumpkin!

Well, we'll be celebrating ourselves at home tomorrow - Susan has come down with Parkinson's disease, mild at the moment - but has limited our traveling - all family a far distance. However, she'll roast a guinea hen (below - locally farmed), a good size for two people and share a bottle of Gloria Ferrar sparkling wine from California.  I'm currently going through my jazz collection (500+ CDs) so will pick something she'll enjoy. Then probably 'Blue Bloods' for our TV entertainment - now on Season 13 for the second time (ends w/ Season 14 unless resurrected?).  Dave

I'm so very sorry to hear that.  Are there any meds that can help her?

I haven't had guinea hen before.  What does it taste like?

Blue Bloods is a good show.  I've watched it off and on over the years.

Best wishes to the both of you.

Hi K! Thanks for your concern - she has a neurology specialist in 'motion disorders' at the medical center where I retired as an emeritus professor in radiology - she is on Levodopa and Carbidopa-levodopa and doing a lot of exercises to keep her muscles working - hopefully this will be slowly progressive but who knows?  We've been married 54 years and approaching 80 years of age, so have had a long life together.

Guinea hen is delicious and like chicken - nice bird for just 2 people - frozen pumpkin pie to bake - my favorite for the holiday - when I was growing up in the Toledo Ohio area my mother would do the turkey dinner w/ her mother making pumpkin pies from scratch! I helped her a few times - involved cutting up the pumpkins and scraping out the contents, homemade crust (using lard!), and secret spices - a yearly treat for me -  ;D  Dave

I hope your wife's condition stabilizes at the least and that it will improve eventually!

We lived in Toledo for 25 years, 1982-2007, probably the best place where we have lived, beating out certain larger cities with too many people and the trinity of devils who always accompany over-population, traffic, pollution, and crime.

The Toledo Symphony is an excellent orchestra right now!

I baked mine last night. I've discovered that there is no point in all from scratch because pumpkin pie always tends to taste the same! So I went with Libby's pumpkin pie mix and I just needed eggs and condensed milk. I'll be sure to say if that was a mistake or not.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The thing that I notice the most is that often the pre-made pie shells are normally not that good as compared to homemade ones [I know, I'm being picky.].  In any event, good for you for diving in and making one!

Our Thanksgiving chicken was most excellent. The Other One cooked it and I carved it because it makes me feel important. Later there will be eggnog, therefore we have no cause for complaint.

 And did you do the right thing by doing a bunch of the "dish duty"?  ;)
