As Pat Metheney said, "The best part of my life as a musician is that when I hear the interval Bb-F, my brain explodes (laughs) with just, like, a million things that that means, or can mean, or might mean, or that connect that interval to nature, to the universe, to the world, to the people around me, to the people I love, to the people I don't know...music becomes this sort of all-encompassing thing that has its own value, that is absolutely separate from the culture that formed it. And that is something, to me, that is hard to over-emphasize to young people, that the time they invest working on music is absolutely worth it."
