I am at a loss discussing the trombone. I have enjoyed Christian Lindberg, and have a piece by Frank Martin, and like how Xenakis has utilized the slide, but, ultimately, I would rather hear from someone more intimately involved.

The trombone deserves more attention. It seems to be getting it recently.

There's the Rouse cto, which I like quite a lot; and the Holmboe cto, which I like less (but still worth hearing); the Berio 5th Sequenza; coupla things by Xenakis...all products of the last 50 or so years.

I used to (try to) play the trombone. An intractable instrument, very difficult to produce a smooth, even tone on it. My hat's off to anyone who can.

Oh, the trombone is an attention-getter, all right . . . .

There is the well known quote, "Never look at the trombone section, it only encourages them."  Alas, on the internet you can find this quote attributed to any number of people.
